At the Bradley Center, in Milwaukee Wed. night, the Denver Nuggets ( 6-3 ), on their longest road trip of the season, coming off a 90-89 win at Chicago on Tuesday, faced the Milwaukee Bucks ( 4-2 ), but couldn't find an answer for Milwaukee center Andrew Bogut, who scored 21 points before the 4th quarter.
The Nuggets, led by 12-year veteran, guard Chauncey Billups, who, averaging 19 points per game, found the basket for the first points of the contest, and forward Carmelo Anthony, looking for his 6th 30-point game, ended up combining for 51 points.
The Bucks, in the midst of a 6-game home-stand, without starting guard, Michael Redd, out with a knee strain, knot up the contest, 27-27, after one period, Bogut, with 13 first quarter points, including a three-point play and 2 blocked shots,
Denver, reaching the Western Conference finals last year, the first time since 1985, leading the league in free-throw shooting this season, got forward Luc Mbah a Moute into foul trouble early, guarding Anthony, getting tagged twice in the first quarter, Anthony with 12 first period points.
Milwaukee's rookie sensation, Brandon Jennings, leading all rookies in scoring this early season with 18 p.p.g., had 12 points in the second period, Milwaukee taking a 53-47 lead over Denver at the half.
In the 3rd quarter, Jennings scores the first points, Milwaukee up 55-47, but Billups and the Nuggets answer, Denver closing the gap 59-55, with 8:23 left in the period.
Milwaukee stretches the lead to 10 points, 69-59, Bogut with a lay-up, 5:23 left in the 3rd, Jennings with 9 total assists, a career high.
The Bucks, through three periods, shooting a season-best 49% from the field, are up 81-72, and in the final period, using the bench, with forward Ersan Ilyasova pouring in a season high 15 points, take a 89-80 lead, 8:14 left in the match.
Denver, a playoff team last season, close the gap at 90-86, with the Milwaukee defense, not giving up a 100-point game this season, being threatened by the Nuggets with six minues left in the game.
Anthony picks a loose ball foul, the second Nugget team foul of the night, with 5:40 left, but Carlos Delfino can't convert, the Nuggets knocking on the door, 90-88, with 4:20 left in the contest.
Jennings, in the clutch, hits a three-pointer, 93-88, then, after a Bogut defensive rebound, adds another, to push shut the door, 97-90, Denver calling a time-out, 3:00 remaining and the home crowd going wild.
A technical foul on Denver gives Ilosova three (3)-free throws, which he makes, stretching the lead to 100-90, the Nuggets answering however, the score 100-94, 1:13 left, the clock ticking.
Denver reaches the 100 point plateau, with 21 seconds left, trailing 104-100, but Milwaukee holds on for their biggest win of the year, 108-102, Jennings with 32 total points.
