The 2012 NFL Pro Bowl is in the history books with the AFC defeating the NFC 59-41, behind WR Brandon Marshalls (Miami) Pro Bowl record 4 touchdown receptions, including the game changer, a 3-yard 4th quarter TD grab from AFC QB Andy Dalton (Cincinnati) that gave the Red team a commanding 52-35 lead with 8:25 left.

Marshall, making his third Pro Bowl appearance, took home the games' MVP trophy, racking up 176 yards of offense on six receptions.

Starting NFC QB Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay) completed 13-of-17 pass attempts for 141 yards and 2 Tds, and QB Cam Newton (Baltimore) threw for 186 yards and 2 scores, but was picked off three times.

AFC QB Philip Rivers (San Diego) threw for 191 yards and 2 Tds and QB Ben Roethlisberger (Pittsburgh) had 181 yards passing and 2 Tds.

Dalton finished the contest with 99 yards passing and 2 Tds.

The Packers were well represented with Head Coach Mike McCarthy, Rodgers, LB Clay Matthews, cornerback Charles Woodson and WR Greg Jennings all in attendance.

Super Bowl XLVI, pitting the New England Patriots against the New York Giants, is scheduled for Sunday, February 05; kickoff time is 5:20pm.

In NBA action; the Milwaukee Bucks lost center Andrew Bogut for the forseeable future (8-12 weeks), out of the starting lineup with a fractured ankle sustained last Wednesday at Houston, a 105-99 Bucks road-win.

Milwaukee (8-11) defeated the LA Lakers (12-9) 100-89 at the Bradley Center Saturday night, forward Drew Gooden (replacing Bogut) pacing the club with 23 points and forward Ersan Ilyasova adding 15 points off-the-bench, the win snapping a three game Bucks home-losing streak.

Milwaukee has a date with the Detroit Pistons (4-17) on Monday (1/30); tipoff time from the Bradley Center is 7:00pm. The Bucks host the Miami Heat (15-5) on Wednesday.

The Milwaukee Brewers will be without the services of slugger 1b Prince Fielder who inked a 9-year, $214.0 million dollar deal with the Detroit Tigers last week.

The contract is the 4th largest in MLB history.

In WIAC basketball action this week; the UW-Eau Claire Blugolds mens basketball team (5-6, 13-7) face UW-Oshkosh (0-10, 4-15) on the road Wednesday ( 2/1) then host UW-RF (9-2, 15-5) on Saturday (2/4).

The UW-EC womens basketball team (9-2, 16-4) host UW-Oshkosh (1-9, 7-12) on Wednesday, then face UW-RF (8-3, 16-4) on Saturday at the Zorn Arena; tipoff time is 3:00pm.

The UW-Stout mens team (1-9, 6-13) host UW-Superior (5-6, 11-9) on Wednesday and UW-Platteville (5-6, 11-9) on Saturday; tip-off time is 6:00pm.

UW-Stouts' womens basketball team (0-10, 4-15) host UW-Superior (3-8, 9-10) on Wednesday; tip-off time from the Johnson Fieldhouse in Menomonie is 7:00pm.

UW-Platteville (4-7, 8-12) will be at the Fieldhouse on Saturday ( 2/4); tip-off time is 4:00pm.

WWS WIAC mens basketball player of the week

UW-Oshkosh student/athlete John Flanigan (Sr.-Oshkosh/WI) is the WWS choice for WIAC mens basketball player of the week.

The Titan forward, ranked 2nd in the WIAC in scoring, added 17 points to his season totals (345) in a tough 69-74 UW-O overtime loss to UW-Platteville at Bo Ryan Court (1/25).

Flanigan had a team-high 12 rebounds (11 defensive) in the game, padding his conference total (113) ranked 3rd in the WIAC.

On Saturday (1/28) Flanigan was limited to 10 points and 3 rebounds in a 52-72 Titan road loss at Mitchell Hall facing UW-La Crosse.

Flanigan leads the conference in offensive rebounds (41) and free throw conversions (97) successfully making 97-of-108 attempts (.898).

Flanigan is 6th in the WIAC in defensive rebounds (72), averaging 4.2 per contest.

Also making the grade this week;

UW-Platteville guard Brett Stangel (Sr.-Monroe/WI) helped the Pioneers overcome a 39-30 first period deficit in the 74-69 OT win over UW-Oshkosh, converting seven three-point plays, finishing the game with 27 points.

UW-Eau Claire guard Jordan Petersen (Jr.-Strum/WI ) team-high 18 points, 67-49 Blugolds road loss at UW-Whitewater (1/28).

UW-Stevens Point center Jordan Brezinski (Sr.-Muskego/WI) double-double 14 points, 14 rebounds in a 67-58 Pointer road-win over UW-Superior (1/28).

WWS WIAC womens basketball player of the week

UW-Superior student/athlete Bri Davis (Sr.-Hermantown/MN) scored 28 points and registered 14 rebounds facing WIAC opponents this week and is the WWS choice for WIAC women's basketball player of the week.

On Wednesday (1/25) the Yellowjacket forward scored 17 points in a closely-played 61-56 home-loss at Mertz Morterelli Gym against powerhouse (16-3) UW-Eau Claire.

Bri converted 7-of-10 shots from the floor and pulled down 7 boards, adding to her conference totals (65).

On Saturday (1/28) Davis registered 11 points and recorded a team-high 7 rebounds in a 67-85 Yellowjacket loss facing defending WIAC Champion UW-Stevens Point, playing for 18 minutes.

In 14 contests this season Davis has scored 147 total points, converting 61-of-108 shots (.565%), with 10 assists.

Last year Bri finished the 2010-11 WIAC season with 323 points and racked up 201 rebounds (126 defensive), playing in 25 games.

Also making the grade this week;

UW-Platteville guard Liz Lawinger (Jr.-Mineral Point/WI) team-high 14 points, on 6-of-10 shooting from the field, in a 56-58 Pioneer road-loss to UW-River Falls at the Karges Center (1/28).

UW-River Falls forward Alise Holst (Sr.-Plainville/MN) had the game-high of 19 points, converting 3-of-6 three point attempts.

UW-RF center Maranda Dohrn (Sr.-Lake City /MN) had 13 rebounds against the Pioneers, giving her 845 career boards, the Falcons all-time rebounding leader.

The Milwaukee Bucks defeated the Miami Heat 91-82 at American Airlines Arena on Sunday, snapping a three game Heat win streak, Milwaukees second straight road win after beating the New York Knicks on Friday.

Top Milwaukee scorer guard Brandon Jennings paced the team with 23 points and center Andrew Bogut contributed 13 points and 8 rebounds.

The Heat were playing without forward Juwan Howard, a career 13.6 ppg. player

The Bucks (6-9) host the Atlanta Hawks (12-5) Monday night at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee; tip-off time is 7:00pm.

In Division 1 college hoops action, Wisconsin Badger Jordan Taylor (Sr.-Bloomington/MN ) is named the Big Ten basketball player of the week, after helping defeat Northwestern 77-57 on Wednesday, recording 15 points, then downing #16 ranked Northern Illinois 67-63 on Sunday, Jordan top game scorer with 19 points.

He also had a season-high 9 rebounds in the Illinois contest.

The Badgers (16-5) face #12 Indiana (15-3) at the Kohl Center on Thursday, January, 26; tip-off is 8:00pm and the game can be viewed on ESPN.

Around the area; the UW-Eau Claire womens basketball team (8-1, 15-3) travel to UW-Superior (3-6, 9-8) on Wednesday, January 25; then on Saturday, January 28 take on UW-Whitewater (6-3, 14-4) at Katchel Gym.

In the mens division UW-EC (4-5, 12-6) hosts UW-Superior (5-4, 11-7) on Wednesday (1/25) then powerhouse UW-Whitewater (8-1, 17-1) on Saturday (1/28); tip-off time is 5:00pm from the Zorn Arena.

In National sports news; former Penn State football Head Coach Joe Paterno (pic) passed away on Sunday after a long battle with terminal lung cancer, he was 85.

Paterno recorded a 409-136-3 win/loss record in his 46 years ( 1966-2011) as Penn States' head football coach.

He was dismissed from his position last year after allegations of sexual abuse, involving an assistant, rocked the University's football program.

In NFL action; the New York Giants and the New England Patriots will meet up in Super Bowl XLVI, scheduled for Sunday, February 5.

NY kicker Lawrence Tynes boots a 31-yard field goal in overtime to give the Giants a 20-17 win over the 49ers in the NFC title game.

Tines also disrupted the Packers' playoff party in 2007 (with a successful overtime kick in the Championship game) giving the Giants a 23-20 win.

New York defeated the unbeaten Patriots (18-0) in the Super Bowl in 2007, 17-14, ruining the Patriots perfect season.

Pop star Madonna is scheduled to perform at halftime.

WWS WIAC womens basketball player of the week

UW-Stevens Point student/athlete Ashley Averkamp (Sr.-New Berlin/WI) is the WWS choice for WIAC womens basketball player of the week.

Averkamp tied for a game-high 16 points at Berg Gym on Wednesday (1/18) facing the UW-Platteville Pioneers, an 80-53 UW-SP win.

She registered 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 blocked shot in the game, playing for 20 minutes.

On Saturday (1/21) against UW-River Falls Ashley had 12 points, adding to her season totals (164) in a 71-59 Pointer win over the 17th ranked Falcons.

Averkamp, playing post, is currently ranked 4th in the conference in field goal percentage, converting 67-of-126 attempts (.532) and is 11th in the WIAC in blocked shots (10) appearing in 16 contests.

Last season the Elementary Education major was an All-WIAC selection, recording a double-double, 23-point, 10-rebound performance in the WIAC Championship game against UW-Whitewater, a 73-53 Pointer win.

Also making the grade this week;

UW-Whitewater guard Mary Merg (So.-Greendale/WI) game-high 20 points, converting 7-of-7 free throws on Saturday (1/21) in a Warhawk 72-55 road-victory over UW-Stout at the Johnson Fieldhouse, the 7th straight UW-Whitewater win.

Against UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday (1/18) at the Katchel Gym Merg had 10 points, 3 steals and 1 assist in a 70-56 Warhawk thumping over the visiting 1-6 Titans.

Mary, currently ranked second in the WIAC in scoring, 14.2 ppg., trailing UW-RF Tiffany Gregorich (Sr.-Altoona/WI) by a mere .1 percentage points (14.3 ppg) also has 42 season assists, good enough for 12th in the conference.

WWS WIAC mens basketball player of the week

UW-River Falls Falcon forward Shane Manor (Sr.-Altoona/WI) scored 57 points facing WIAC opponents this week and is the WWS choice for WIAC mens basketball player of the week.

Manor poured in 26 points at Bennett Court in Stevens Point in a 82-75 Falcon road-win over #11 ranked UW-SP on Saturday (1/21). The victory snapped a Pointer 29-game home winning streak.

Manor, ranked third in the WIAC in scoring (18.3 ppg), converted 6-of 11 shots from the field and was 14-of-15 from the charity line.

He recorded a team-high 9 rebounds, adding to his season totals (101), ranked eighth in the conference.

Manor had 3 assists and 1 blocked shot in the contest, playing for thirty-seven minutes.

On Wednesday (1/18) facing powerhouse UW-Superior at Mertz Mortorelli Gym Manor registered a game-high 31 points but the visiting Falcons come up short on the scoreboard, falling 85-82 to the Yellowjackets in a close played contest.

Manor converted 13-of-18 (.722) shot attempts and was a perfect 5-for-5 from the charity stripe.

In 2011 Manor was voted Newcomer of the Year and was an All-WIAC selection.

The defeat of Green Bay (by the New York Giants) was much too devastating for PackRat to stomach and Minnie was elected to finish the season finale of the 'View from the Mouse-hole', featuring GB Packer commentary delivered by the faithfuls most recognizable fan, Mickey the PackRat.

The Packer team looked as rusty as the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz, and New York QB Eli Manning became the Wicked Witch from the East, who ruined the Green Bay party.

GB receivers dropped eight QB Aaron Rodgers passes and Packer running backs coughed up three fumbles, a seasons worth of miscues, eventually costing the organization a chance to host the NFC Championship Game next weekend.

The biggest game in football.

Manning torched the GB secondary for over 300 yards and 3-Tds, the game totals about average for the Packers defense this year.

Poor Rodgers had not seen the football against any opponent since Christmas and a lot of the team had not played together in weeks, including WR Greg Jennings (who claimed he was healthy to begin the game) yet was seen leaving in the second half with an undisclosed injury, finishing with four catches... and two drops.

PackRat realized the NFL year was over for the defending World Champion Green Bay Packers late in the fourth quarter when WR Donald Driver caught a TD pass, closing the gap at 30-20, and never performed the 'Lambeau Leap'; instead he turned and kissed the faithful 'goodbye' for the season, and perhaps forever.

A great end to a fantastic NFL career for a deserving GB receiver, who played 13 seasons as a Packer, racking up over 10,000 receiving yards.

A extremely disappointing end to the 'dream year' for the hard-core faithful, despite the unbelievable 15-1 regular season record.

Expectations were high for Green Bay to at least make it to the 'big game', and to lose the first playoff contest at Lambeau Field in five years is truly hard as a fan to endure, especially when the defeat was to a team the Pack had beaten the previous two meetings, the last time at the Giants' haus, Metlife Stadium, in December.

The only silver lining in the black cloud of defeat is that the faithful now do not have to worry about the team losing the NFC Championship Game or even worse, the Super Bowl.

So the loss actually becomes a blessing in disguise, considering how horrible the clubs' defense performed this past year.

We were not going anywhere (Super Bowl) anyways.

The Green Bay organization is beginning to show cracks in the infra-structure as defensive coordinator Dom Capers and offensive coordinator Joe Philbin already have offers on the table from other clubs.

Capers was offered the Head Coaching job at Oakland and Philbin the General Manager position at Seattle.

Maybe Capers wanted to exit after winning it all last year, that's why he designed defensive game schemes that allowed a stat-shattering 6600+ yards this past season. Hmmmm....

The off-season starts today for the deserving Green Bay Packers who really had nothing left to prove to anyone after winning it all last year and recording a franchise record 15-1 regular season mark this year.

Minnie wishes the team the best in all future endeavors and looks forward to the next NFL year when the Packers will again have something to prove and succeed beyond the critics wildest expectations.

PackRat (and Minnie) also will return next NFL season, rooting on the greatest franchise in the NFL, the NFC-North Champion Green Bay Packers.

Until then faithful readers Minnie bids all 'adieu'.

The Green Bay Packers defense surrendered 311 yards of 1st half offense facing the New York Giants in the NFC Divisional Championship, en route to a disappointing 37-20 loss at Lambeau Field, the defeat effectively ending the Packs dream 2011-12 season.

Ending first half action, Giants WR Hakeem Nicks grabs a 37-yard 'Hail-Mary' TD throw from New York QB Eli Manning, giving the visitors a 20-10 lead which the Giants never relinquish.

Manning finishes the day with 330 yards passing and 3-Tds, the team next heading to San Francisco for the NFC Championship game facing the 49ers.

UW-Eau Claire Blugold student/athlete Ellen Plendl (Sr.-Chippewa Falls/WI) is the WWS choice for WIAC women's basketball player of the week.

The Blugold center had 9 rebounds, 7 blocked shots, and scored 10 points at Kolf Sports Complex on Wednesday (1/11) facing the UW-Oshkosh Titans, a 52-47 'Golds road-win.

Ellen also had 4 assists and converted 4-of-5 free throw attempts in the game, an overall excellent performance against a deceivingly tough 0-6 Titan team.

Against perennial powerhouse 17th ranked UW-River Falls on Saturday (1/14) Plendl cleaned the glass for 18 rebounds (15 defensive) and recorded 5 blocked shots and 1 steal in a 63-57 Blugold road-win over the 13-2 Falcons at the Karges Center.

The 'Golds center is currently ranked 12th in the conference in scoring (196) averaging 11.5 points per game, and is second in the WIAC in total rebounds (183) grabbing 10.8 boards per contest.

She also leads the conference in blocked shots (62) averaging 3.65 per match.

2009-10 Started 26-of-27 games. Named Honorable Mention All-WIAC.
Team's fourth-leading scorer, averaging 8.7 points per game. Second-leading rebounder (7.2 per game) fifth in the WIAC.

WWS WIAC mens basketball player of the week

UW-Whitewater student/athlete Chris Davis (Sr.-Madison/WI) scored 47 points facing WIAC opponents this week and is the WWS choice for WIAC mens basketball player of the week.

On Wednesday (1/11) Davis scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds in a thrilling 75-70 Warhawk win over visiting UW-Platteville.

Davis converted a three-point play with 51 seconds in the game to give Whitewater a 71-65 lead, then iced a pair of free throws, after the Pioneers closed to 70-72, sealing the UW-W win.

Facing UW-Superior on Saturday (1/14) the UW-Whitewater center had a game-high 24 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals, pacing the Warhawks to their sixth WIAC win this season, a 80-58 win over the Yellowjackets.

Davis, leading the WIAC in scoring (393 points) averaging 24.7 points per game, also tops the conference in rebounds (8.1 per contest).

He has successfully converted 55-of-64 free throw attempts (887%), ranked second in the conference.

Last season Davis garnered WWS player of the week honors twice, with a pair of double-double performances over UW-O, scoring 30 points in a double OT 89-87 road-win (1/12/11) then recording a 35 point, 12 rebound game against the Titans at home (2/16/11).

The Milwaukee Bucks suffered their 7th road-loss this season Friday night, facing the World champion Dallas Mavericks, Milwaukee again playing without center Andrew Bogut, out of the starting lineup with a possible concussion.

After leading 32-23 in the opening quarter, the Mavericks cruise to a 60-45 advantage at the break, Dallas guard Vince Carter setting the pace with 14 points and guard Jason Terry adding 11 off the bench, converting 2-of-4 three's.

Falling behind 63-83 starting 4th period action, Milwaukee sinks to new lows in the final quarter, failing to convert a basket for three minutes as the World Champion Mavericks cruise to a 90-65 lead, en route to a lopsided 102-76 win.

Top game scorer, Milwaukee's Brandon Jennings dropped in 19 points and guard Shaun Livingston added 15 off the bench.

The Bucks shot a disappointing 37.2% on the night, converting only 29-of-78 shot attempts, and making 5-of-24 three point attempts.

Carter and Terry finish with 16 and 17 points, respectively, for the Mavericks.

The Packers look healthy entering this weekends divisional playoff game at Lambeau facing the New York Giants as all starters participated in at least limited practice this week, including WR Greg Jennings and LT Chad Clifton.

Bryan Bulaga is also expected to start at tackle, returning from a knee injury suffered October 7, 2011.

The Giants' RB Ahmad Bradshaw (foot) and LB Mark Herzlich (ankle) did not participate in practice on Thursday and RB D. J. Ware (concussion) was limited.

Giants DE Osi Umenyiora (ankle/knee) also did not participate fully in practice this week.

Umenyiora has 25 tackles, 9 sacks and 2 forced fumbles playing in 9 contests this past season.

Keys to a Packer victory include limiting the New York pass rush and the addition of Clifton to the GB offensive line could help slow down Umenyiora and DE J. Pierre Paul (16.5 sacks) who has already predicted a Giants win.

Green Bay playoff captains for the match are QB Aaron Rodgers/WR Donald Driver on offense, CB Charles Woodson/LB A.J. Hawk on defense, and K Mason Crosby/CB Jarrett Bush on special teams.

Fans spent the day (Friday) removing snow from Lambeau in preperation for Sundays game.

Bogut registered a double-double, 14 points, 11 boards against the Spurs, and facing Detroit recorded the first points of the game, Bogut and second-round Milwaukee pick-up forward Jon Leuer combining for 11 1st period points, giving Milwaukee a 31-27 advantage.

Leuer, starting his first contest as a Buck, finished with 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the paint, playing for 31 minutes.

Top game scorer Piston center Greg Monroe poured in 32 points and pounded the glass for 16 boards, aided by guard Brandon Knights' 20 points, 15 dropped in the first half.

The Bucks were paced by guard Brandon Jennings who had 27 points, converting 3-of-4 three point plays, shooting 9-of-15 from the field.

Milwaukee/Detroit set an NBA record for free throw conversions, both teams a perfect 17-of-17 (Milw) and 24-of-24 (Det) at the line in the game.

In other notable NBA action; the Orlando Magic (8-3) defeated Golden State (3-7) 117-109 at the Oracle Arena, Magic center Dwight Howard scoring 45 points and grabbing 23 rebounds, also setting an NBA record in the process.

Howard went to the charity stripe an NBA record 39 times, converting 18 attempts, helping the club to their third straight road-win.

The struggling Milwaukee Bucks won a much-needed home contest at the Bradley Center Tuesday night, defeating the San Antonio Spurs 106-103, former Buck forward Richard Jefferson (08-09) missing a three-point attempt that would have tied the game in the final seconds, preserving the Milwaukee win.

After dropping their last five road-games, playing four without center Andrew Bogut
the Bucks notch a 'W' in the win column, Bogut finishing with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Top game scorer, Milwaukee's Stephen Jackson had 34 points and forward Carlos Delfino added 18, converting 4-of-6 three point attempts.

San Antonio was defeated at Oklahoma 108-96 on Sunday, Spurs guard Gary Neal leading the club with 18 points in the losing effort, now dropping their second straight road-contest.

Facing Milwaukee, Spurs guard Tony Parker had 22 points and forward Tim Duncan scored 20 points, making 9-of-12 shots from downtown.

Neal ended the evening with 10 points and Jefferson recorded 12 points, converting 3-of-7 three-point plays.

The fourth seeded New York Giants (9-7) defeated the Atlanta Falcons (10-6) 24-2 in the wild-card round of the playoffs on Sunday (1/8) and next face Green Bay in the divisional round on Sunday, January 15.

The Giants disposed of the Packers in the 2007 NFC playoffs, 23-20, a contest that former New York WR Plaxico Burress racked up 164 yards on 11 receptions and the GB running game sputtered to the tune of 28 rushing yards.

This season Green Bay downed New York 38-35 in week-13, Packer QB Aaron Rodgers passing for 369 yards and 4-Tds in the winning effort.

Giants QB Eli Manning tossed three Tds and passed for 347 yards, and RB Brandon Jacobs rushed for 59 yards on 8 carries, part of 100-yard effort on the ground for New York.

GB kicker Mason Crosby ices a 31-yd field goal attempt as time expires in the final period giving GB the road-win at Metlife Stadium.

Looking at the two clubs, the Giants defense is coughing up 305 yards per game and GB is surrendering 313 yards, 210 yards given up via the pass.

Manning completed 359 attempts for 4,933 yards this season, with 29 Tds and a QB rating of 92.9. He was also picked off 16 times.

Rodgers accumulated 4,643 yards passing with 45-Tds (6-Ints) and an NFL record 122.5 QB rating.

Green Bay fullback John Kuhn is leading the Packer running backs with 4 rushing Tds this season, and starting RB James Starks has a 4.3 yard average on 133 attempts.

WR Jordy Nelson has 15-Td receptions on 68 catches, eclipsing 1200 yards this NFL year.

The Pack will hopefully be returning WR Greg Jennings (knee) and LT Chad Clifton (back) to the starting lineup for the Giants playoff game, Jennings racking up 67 receptions for 949 yards and 9-Tds this season.

Clifton, a 12-year NFL veteran (primarily at left tackle) saw limited action against the Lions, after returning from a leg injury, and his presence will be a great addition to the Packers offensive line facing the Giants.

Green Bay has never lost two playoff games in a row to the same team so lets hope the trend continues next weekend.

The Packers, with home field advantage, should win like all the other wild-card teams that played at home did this past weekend.

It's not called 'home field advantage' for nothing.

New York, Minnesota and the Atlanta Falcons have all beaten GB at home in a playoff game, the only teams since the merger to accomplish this feat.

In other wildcard weekend playoff action; the Houston Texans defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 31-10, Texan QB T. J. Yates completing 11-of-20 passes for 159 yards and 1-Td.

Bengals QB rookie Andy Dalton (Texas Christian) passed for 257 yards but was picked off three times.

The Texans (10-6) face the Baltimore Ravens (12-4) next Sunday, January 15; game time is 12:00pm

The Detroit Lions were ousted from the playoff picture by the New Orleans Saints 45-28, the Saints (13-3) with the win next facing San Francisco (13-3) in the divisional round on Saturday, January 14; kickoff time is 7:00pm, broadcast by the Fox network.

The Denver Broncos (8-8) upset defending AFC Champion Pittsburgh 29-23 in overtime and next play the New England Patriots (13-3) on Sunday, January 15; kickoff time is 7:00pm.

Denver QB Tim Tebow (2-Florida) completed 10-of-21 passes for 316 yards and 2-Tds in the victory over the Steelers, including a 80-yd. catch/run TD in OT to Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas.

WWS WIAC mens basketball player of the week

UW-Superior Yellowjacket guard Ben Aalfs (Sr.-Hutchinson/MN) is the WWS choice for WIAC men's basketball player of the week.

Aalfs scored a team-high 17 points on Saturday at Mertz Mortorelli Gym in a 64-61 Yellowjacket win over the 9-6 UW-Platteville Pioneers.

Aalfs converted 6-of-11 shots attempts, making 3-of-5 three-point attempts, with 3 assists and 2 steals in the game.

Aalfs, ranked 7th in the WIAC in scoring, averaging 14.4 points per contest, scored 12 points and tied for a team-high 8 rebounds facing the UW-Oshkosh Titans on Wednesday (1/4) at the Kolf Sports Center, a 71-64 Superior road-win.

For the season Aalfs has 86 rebounds, (67 defensive) 7th in the WIAC.

Other WIAC student/athletes making the grade this week;

UW-Platteville forward Jake Manning (Fr.-Cedar Rapids/IA) game-high 19 points facing UW-La Crosse (1/4) a 66-63 Pioneer win.

UW-Stevens Point guard Tyler Tillema (Jr.-Randolph/WI) career-high 31 points against UW-Eau Claire on Saturday (1/7) a 85-74 UW-SP home-win.

Tillema was a perfect 12-for-12 at the free throw line and had 4 rebounds and 2 assists.

On Saturday, (1/7) UW-Whitewater Warhawk forward Chris Davis (Sr.-Madison/WI) poured in a game-high 31 points, on 10-of-13 shooting, against the previously undefeated 4-0 (10-3 overall) UW-River Falls Falcons, a 84-70 'Hawk win.

Davis, pacing the conference in scoring ( 24.3 ppg.) registered a team-high 18 points at the Kachel Gym in the Williams Center last Wednesday (1/4) helping the team dispose of visiting Edgewood College 79-51.

Davis earned WWS mens basketball player of the week honors twice last season, recording 35 points in a game against UW-Oshkosh and 29 against UW-Eau Claire.

UW-La Crosse Eagle guard Cory Degner (Sr.-New Berlin/WI) 23 points on Saturday (1/7) in a 79-64 road win over the UW-Oshkosh Titans. Degner converted 9-of-11 free-throw attempts.

Phoenix center Marcin Gortat scored a game-high 18 points, on 9-of-10 shooting from downtown, helping the Suns send Milwaukee to their fifth straight road loss with a crushing 109-93 defeat at US Airways Center Sunday night.

The Suns shot a blistering 43-of-77 (55.8%) from the field and converted 10-of-22 three-point plays (45%), taking a double-digit lead at the break, 57-47, then stretching the advantage to 91-66 starting 4th period action.

Phoenix had seven players recording double-figures, including guard Steve Nash who had a game-high 17 rebounds and 10 points.

The Bucks were paced by rookie forward Tobias Harris (R-Tennessee) who had 15 points off the bench.

The Bucks (2-6) have a game scheduled on Tuesday, January 10 at the Bradley Center facing the San Antonio Spurs (6-3)., tipoff time is 7:00pm.

WWS WIAC womens basketball player of the week

UW-River Falls Falcon Maranda Dohrn (Sr.-Lake City /MN) pounded the glass for 21 rebounds and scored 20 points facing WIAC opponents this week and is the WWS choice for women's WIAC basketball player of the week.

Maranda registered a double-double, 15 points and a game-high 10 rebounds (8 defensive) in a disappointing 64-53 UWRF loss at Kachel Gym facing the UW-Whitewater Warhawks (1/7).

On Wednesday (1/4) Dohrn was limited to 5 points, but the Falcon center recorded 11 rebounds and 1 blocked shot in a 67-63 River Falls win over WIAC defending champion UW-Stevens Point.

UW-SP advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 last season (2010-11) after winning the WIAC tournament, finishing the year with a 27-3 overall record (16-0 WIAC).

Dohrn is leading the conference in rebounding, with 170 boards (122 defensive), averaging 12.2 rebounds per game.

She has scored 135 points (25th WIAC), averaging 9.2 points per contest.

Dohrn is ranked second in the WIAC in offensive rebounds with 48, averaging 3.46 per game in 14 contests played.

Other WIAC student/athletes earning recognition this week;

UW-Eau Claire Blugold forward Callie Halama (Sr.-Independence/WI) led all scorers with 19 points, on 9-of-14 shooting, in a 60-64 Eau Claire loss against #9 ranked (d3hoops.com) UW-Stevens Point at Berg Gym on Saturday (1/7).

The defeat snapped a nine game 'Golds win streak.

UW-Stevens Point Sam Barber (Jr.-Schofield/WI) 19 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals in a 63-67 road-loss to UW-River Falls (1/4).

UW-La Crosse Eagle guard Rachael Salata (Sr.-Sheboygan Falls/WI) game-high 14 points in a 58-46 Eagle road-win over UW-Platteville at Bo Ryan Court (1/4).

Salata converted 9-of-10 free-throw attempts and recorded 8 rebounds and 2 steals in the contest.

UW-Superior forward Hailey Hart (Sr.-Osseo/WI) 7-of-12 shooting for a game-high 16 points in a 69-50 win over UW-Platteville (1/7).

Hailey had 8 rebounds (5 offensive) in the game, helping the Yellowjackets to a school record 5th straight win.

Milwaukee guard Brandon Jennings paced the club with 21 points but the LA Clippers record the win, LA forward Blake Griffin and guard Chauncey Billups combining for 41 points, sending the Bucks to their fourth straight road-loss.

Milwaukee led at the break 40-38, but trailed 73-65 starting fourth period action, Jennings finishing the contest shooting 9-of-21 from the field, converting two of seven three point attempts.

The Bucks shot 29-of-80 (36.2%) from the field and only made six of 20 three point attempts (30%) while the Clippers converted 31-of-69 attempts (44.9%), the difference in the contest.

Bucks center Andrew Bogut did not play, replaced by forward/center Drew Gooden who dropped in 18 points and had a team-high 13 rebounds.

Bogut is home in Melbourne, Australia dealing with 'family issues' according to his agent Bruce Kaider.

Milwaukee (2-5) continues the road-trip on Sunday, January 08, with a game against the Phoenix Suns (3-4); tip-off time from US Airways Center is 9:00pm.

The Sacramento Kings were blown out in their last contest 110-83 Wednesday at Denver facing the Nuggets, despite an off-the-bench, 26 point performance by Kings center DeMarcus Cousins (1-Kentucky).

Cousins also had three steals and 2 blocked shots, playing for 25 minutes.

The defeat at Denver dropped the Kings into last place in the Pacific division and Sacramento Head Coach Paul Westphal was fired, replaced on Thursday by assistant coach Keith Smart.

Cousins scored the opening points of the contest Thursday night at Power Balance Pavalion in Sacramento, but Milwaukee's Brandon Jennings stole the show in the first period with 10 points and 4 assists, helping the Bucks to a 30-25 lead.

Jennings converted both three-point attempts in the first half (after missing his previous 11 the last two contests) as the Bucks coast to a double-digit advantage at 47-31, with 4:45 left before the break.

After enjoying a 58-37 lead starting third period action, the Bucks stretch the advantage to 82-68 entering the final quarter and thats where they run into trouble.

With 11:18 remaining in the game the Kings go on a 33-18 run, Sacramento guards Marcus Thornton and Tyreke Evans combining for 18 points in the 4th quarter to seal the Bucks fate late.

Evans ices a pair of free throw attempts with 18 ticks remaining on the clock, giving the Kings a 101-100 lead and the Bucks heading to their third straight road-loss.

Thornton finished with a team-high 27 points, and Evans recorded a double-double, 26 points and 10 boards (7 defensive).

Cousins paced the club with 15 rebounds, adding 19 points, converting 8-of-18 shot attempts from the paint.

Former Buck guard/forward John Salmons recorded 13 points on 5-of-13 shooting.

Jennings was top game scorer with 31 points, making 6-of-10 three point attempts.

Milwaukee (2-4) heads to Los Angeles on Saturday, January 07, for a match against the Clippers (4-2), tip-off time from the Staples Center is 9:30pm.

Hart paced the club with 10 rebounds and also had 5 assists.

Titan guard Megan Wenig (Jr.-Oshosh/WI) led all UW-Oshkosh scorers with 17 points, shooting 4-of-9 from the field and converting all eight free throw attempts.

UW-RF guard Tiffany Gregorich (SR.-Altoona/WI) scored 17 points and forward Brittany Gregorich (Jr.-Altoona/WI) added 12 points and 7 rebounds, the win giving the team a 12-1 overall and 4-0 conference record.

The Milwaukee Bucks dropped their second straight road contest with a 73-85 defeat facing the Utah Jazz (3-3) at Energy Solutions Center (4-2) Tuesday night in Salt Lake City.

Milwaukee trailed 34-43 at the break, but closed the gap at 59-62 in the final period, with a pair of converted free throws by former LA Clipper guard Shaun Livingston, however the team never recovered sufficiently to challenge down the stretch.

Livingston finished the game with 9 points off the bench.

Bucks guard Brandon Jennings had 8 points, shooting 4-of-19 from the field, missing all seven of his three-point attempts.

The team only converted 29-of-95 (30.5%) shot attempts on the night.

The Bucks were paced by forward Drew Gooden who scored 24 points, replacing Milwaukee center Andrew Bogut, out for personal reasons.

Gooden recorded a double-double with 12 rebounds (7 offensive) and had 1 blocked shot in the contest, aided by forward/guard Stephen Jackson with 16 points, on 5-of-17 shooting from the field.

Top game scorer, Jazz center Al Jefferson also registered a double-double, pouring in 26 points and grabbing 10 boards.

Jefferson also had 2 blocked shots, with 3 steals, and the Jazz bench contributed 31 points in the win.

PackRat is back with a special edition of the 'View from the Mouse-hole' featuring NFC playoff talk and fresh Packer news.

With the Green Bay win over the Lions on Sunday Detroit is forced to head to New Orleans and face Saints QB Drew Brees who passed for an NFL single season record 5,476 yards (2011), breaking the old mark set by Miami Dolphin Dan Marino in 1984.

Brees has 468 completions this season (also a NFL record) and thirteen 300+ yard games, piloting the team to a 13-3 NFC-South mark.

The Saints average 467.1 yards of offense per match.

Game time is set for Saturday, January 07, 7:00pm CT and can be viewed on the NBC network.

Green Bays first contest is scheduled for Sun., Jan. 15, 3:30pm CT in the divisional round of the playoffs facing either Atlanta or the New York Giants.

The team hosts a playoff game for the first time in five years.

GB could also conceivably face Detroit if they succeed on the road against New Orleans.

In a side note New England Patriot QB Tom Brady passed for 5,235 yards this NFL year, also breaking the old record of 5,024 yards.

Green Bay defeated the Saints 42-34 in Week-1 of the season, a game in which Brees passed for over 400 yards. Could be a tough test for the Lions...

Green Bay QB Aaron Rodgers also set new Packer records; for highest average gain per pass attempt for a season, with 9.25 yards gained per attempt, eclipsing former record holder Lynn Dickeys 9.21 yards per attempt (1983) and his single season record of 4,458 yards.

Rodgers broke Brett Favres franchise TD record (39-1996) with 45 Tds this season, playing in 15 contests.

Rodgers is the also the first QB in NFL history to throw for over 4,000 yards and have only 6 interceptions.

Concerning the match against the Lions, it was great to see Green Bay offensive left tackle Chad Clifton play in Sundays contest (returning from a hamstring injury suffered in week-5) and he is expected to start on January 15th facing a TBD opponent.

PackRat thought that RB Ryan Grants depicting a 'snow angel' after his 1st quarter TD run in the end zone was in poor taste.

Showboating is detrimental to the goal of getting to the NFC Championship game and it also cost the team penalty yardage after the ensuing kickoff.

Grants behavior, hopefully was, uncharacteristic.

The running back finished the year with 559 yards rushing on 134 attempts for a 4.2 yard average (2-Tds).

Speaking of penalties, the team became the least penalized club in the NFL this year, with a paltry 4.8 penalties per contest, tied with the Indianapolis Colts for first in the category.

The 37.4 penalty yards per contest ranked them 2nd in the league.

On a down note Green Bays defense coughed up a stat-shattering 6,585 yards of real -estate, while the offensive unit tallied 6,482 yards of production.

Some wonder how they could have a winning record when a club gives up more yards than it produces.

The Packers generated turnovers to account for the difference., tied for first in the league with the San Francisco 49ers with thirty-eight takeaways.

Looking ahead to the 2012-13 season schedule here is a list of Green Bay opponents.

NBA Milwaukee at Denver Nuggets

The Milwaukee Bucks fell to 2-2 on the season with a 91-86 defeat facing the Denver Nuggets (4-2) Monday night at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado.

Milwaukee shot a dismal 37-of-88 (42%) from the field and only converted 5-of-19 (29%) three point attempts in the loss.

Bucks forward Stephen Jackson paced the team with 17 points on 7-of-18 shooting and forward/guard Carlos Delfino added 14 points and 9 rebounds.

Milwaukee guard Brandon Jennings recorded 12 points and had three assists but missed all four of his three-point attempts.

Top game scorer, Nuggets forward Danilo Gallinari ( 3- Sant'Angelo Lodigiano, Italy) registered a double-double, dropping in 21 points and grabbing 10 boards.

Wisconsins 300+ lb offensive line dominated the line of scrimmage in the first offensive series facing the Pac-10 Champion Oregon Ducks in the Granddaddy of Bowl games, the 98th Rose Bose, held Monday in Pasadena, California, but that effort was not to be enough.

A 38-yd TD pass completion from UW-Badger QB Russell Wilson (Sr.-Richmond/VA) to walk-on WR Jared Abbrederis (So.-Wautoma/WI) gives Wisconsin an early 7-0 lead.

Wilson has the NCAA record of 38 games with at least 1 TD.

Badger RB Montee Ball (Jr.-Wentzville/MO), a 2011 Heisman Trophy finalist, had three carries for 35 yards in the opening series, setting up the play-action TD by Wilson.

The Ducks answer with a first series 7-play, 80-yard drive, knotting up the contest at 7-7, 9:41 remaining in the period.

Oregon QB Darron Thomas (Jr.-Houston/TX) completes a 35-yard pass to WR Lavasier Tuinei (Sr.-Arcadia/IND), setting up a 1-yd RB LaMichael James (Sr.-Texarkana/TX) TD run.

On the next Badger offensive series Ball rumbles 74 yards on 6 carries, then catches a 7-yd pass at the Oregon five-yard line, culminating in a Wilson TD run.

Oregon RB De Anthony Thomas (Fr.-Los Angeles/CA) takes it to the house ending 1st quarter scoring with a Rose Bowl record 91-yd TD romp, tying the game at 14-14.

The run breaks the previous record held by Tyrone Wheatley (89 yards - Michigan, 1993).

Ball ties the NCAA rushing TD record with a 4-yd TD run in the second quarter, held by Barry Sanders (1983), his 39th TD this season, giving Wisconsin a 21-14 advantage.

The Ducks' 54-yd pass completion for a TD to WR Kenjon Barner (Jr.-Riverside/CA) evens the score at 21-21 with ten minutes left in the half.

Oregon had the ball for four minutes of play in the first 20 minutes of action and scored 21 points.

An Oregon fumble by Thomas, with three minutes before the break, gives Wisconsin a 28-21 lead, Badger defensive lineman Louis Nzegwu (Sr.-Platteville/WI) recovering the ball, taking it 33 yards for the score.

The Ducks add another TD before the half-time festivities, making it a 28-28 game, the 56 points scored the most in a half in Rose Bowl history.

In the 3rd period De Anthony Thomas runs 64-yards for another touchdown, on the first offensive play from scrimmage for Oregon, giving the Ducks their first lead at 35-28.

Oregon had 35 offensive plays in the first 32 minutes of action and totaled 35 points.

Wisconsin converts a 29-yard 3rd quarter field goal, narrowing the gap at 31-35, then takes the lead at 38-35 with an 18 yard TD strike to WR Nick Toon (Sr.Middleton/WI), ending third period scoring.

In the final period Tuinei gives Oregon the advantage at 42-38, grabbing an 11-yd touchdown strike, and then the Ducks mount a five minute, 12-play, 76-yard drive, (setting up a 30-yard field goal conversion) putting Oregon up to stay 45-38.

The #10 ranked BCS Big Ten Champion Wisconsin Badgers (11-2) face the Pac-10 Champion #5 ranked BCS Oregon Ducks (11-2) in the 98th Rose Bowl, Wisconsin hoping to avenge a 2011 21-19 Rose Bowl loss to the TCU Horned Frogs, Oregon last appearing in 2010 facing Ohio State, falling 26-10.

The Ducks have not won in the Rose Bowl in 95 years, a 14-0 win over Pennsylvania in 1917.

In an interesting side note, the Northwestern Wildcats won the 1949 Rose Bowl 20-14 and have never returned or won another bowl game since.

UW-Badger QB Russell Wilson (Sr.-Richmond/VA) leads a Wisconsin offense that has outscored opponents 580 to 221, Wilson with 2,879 yards passing this season and 31 Tds. He has completed 206-of-283 pass attempts with a QB efficiency rating of 191.6.

Heisman Trophy finalist RB Montee Ball (Jr.-Wentzville/MO) has 38 total TDs (32 rush, 6 receiving) this season and needs 1 TD to break Barry Sanders NCAA record of 39 set in 1988.

Oregon Duck QB Darron Thomas (Jr.-Houston/TX) passed for 4,929 career yards, including 2,493 yards this year.

Thomas' 51 career TD passes, with 30-TD throws this season, rank him 5th all-time at the University of Oregon.

Duck RB LaMichael James (Jr.-Texarkana/TX) a Doak Walker finalist, awarded to the nations top collegiate back, has 4,923 career rushing yards in three seasons, tops in school history.

Oregon RB De'Anthony Thomas (Fr.-Los Angeles/CA) has played in 13 games with 42 receptions for 571 yards, a 13.6 yard average per catch with 9-Tds.

He also has rumbled for 440 yards on 53 attempts, an 8.3 yard average, with 5 Tds.

Thomas was picked by rivals.com and ESPN as the number 1 athlete in the nation.

The Ducks have scored 600 points this year, and have over 6,600 yards of total offense, averaging 515 yards per contest.

Wisconsin's defense surrenders an average of 293 yards per game.

Wisconsin has 3,086 yards rushing this season (2,984 passing) and over 6000 yards of total offense.

On the defensive side of the ball Duck free safety John Boyett (Jr.-Napa/CA) leads the team with 91 combined tackles (54 solo) with linebacker Michael Clay (Jr.-San Jose/CA) a close second, 89 combined stops.

Wisconsin linebacker Mike Taylor ( Jr.-Ashwaubenon/WI) has racked up 137 total tackles this season (53-solo) and linebacker Chris Borland (So.-Kettering/OH) 131 (56-solo.

Badger defensive back Aaron Henry (Sr.-Immokalee/FL) has three interceptions with 40 solo stops, playing in all 13 contests.

Kickoff from the Rose Bowl game presented by Honda and Vizio is set for 4:10 pm.

WWS WIAC womens basketball player of the week

UW-EC Blugold guard Nicole Christianson (#21 Sr.-Chetek/WI) is the WWS choice for WIAC women's basketball player of the week.

Averaging 12.6 points per game (8th WIAC) Christianson helped keep the UW-EC Blugolds undefeated on their recent three contest road-trip to Texas (Southwestern Classic) winning 81-34 facing Trinity (12/28), defeating Southwestern 72-62 (12/29), then crushing Austin College (TX) 66-32 on Saturday (12/31).

Christianson scored 11 points against Trinity (7 assists), a game-high 17 against Austin, and 11 facing Southwestern, piloting the Blugolds to an 11-2 overall record, including an eight game win streak.

For the season Christianson has 151 total points, dropping in twenty-four 3-point plays(12th), pacing the WIAC in assists, with 47, averaging 3.92 per game.

The Accounting major has racked up 51 defensive rebounds (8th), averaging 4.5 boards per match, and is 6th in the conference in blocked shots with 14.

WWS WIAC mens basketball player of the week

UW-Stevens Point Pointer forward/guard Dan Tillema (Sr.-Rudolph/WI) is the WWS choice for WIAC mens basketball player of the week.

Facing St. Olaf College on Saturday (12/31) at Bennett Court, Tillema, ranked 3rd in the WIAC in scoring (223) added 21 points to his season totals as the 18th ranked Pointers win a non-conference game against the St. Olaf Oles 83-70.

Tillema shot 7-of-13 from the field, converting all six charity shots, with six defensive boards (1-7) and three blocked shots.

The UW-SP forward recorded eight assists and had six steals in the contest, playing thirty-five minutes, a great overall effort.

Last Thursday (12/22) facing #13 ranked St. Thomas, Tillema recorded a double-double, pounding the glass for 12 rebounds (10 defensive), also pacing the team with 18 points in a 72-66 Pointer home win.

This season Tillema is averaging 18.6 points per game for the Nationally ranked Pointers, with 32 three-point plays, appearing in all twelve contests.

The two clubs accumulated an new NFL record 1,000 yards of passing offense in the contest.

Its a great time to be a Green Bay Packers fan as the team set franchise and NFL marks in a number of categories this past year, including winning a franchise record 15 games.

The 2007 New England Patriots went 16-0 and are the only team to go undefeated in a 16-game NFL season.

The 1972 Miami Dolphins went undefeated both post and regular season, but back then only played a 14-game NFL season.

The 1984 San Francisco 49ers, the 1985 Chicago Bears, the 1998 Minnesota Vikings, and the 2004 Pittsburgh Steelers all went 15-1 and now are joined by the 2011-12 Green Bay Packers.

QB Aaron Rodgers recorded a 2011-12 season quarterback rating of 122.5, a new NFL record, surpassing the former mark set by Indianapolis Colt Peyton Manning (121.1 - 2004).

Rodgers had 343 completions on 502 attempts for 4,643 yards, with 45 TDs and only 6 INTs.

Rodgers career (2005-11) 104.1 QB rating tops the NFL's all-time list.

WR Donald Driver (13-Alcorn St.) eclipses the GB all-time receiving record with 10,060 yards receiving on 735 career receptions (also a franchise record) with 59 Tds.

Driver set the new mark on September 18 against Carolina, catching a 10-yd pass.

He caught touchdown fifty-nine Sunday against the Lions, a day which had Packer backup QB Matt Flynn tossing a Packer record 6-TDs, in a 45-41 shootout win over Detroit, the teams' 15th win this season.

Flynn had 480 yards passing in the game and will become a free-agent after the season, another GB backup destined to find a starting role in a different organization next season.

Flynn is the first Packer player in history to record 400+ yards and 6-Tds in a single game; passing up 1965 first-round draft pick QB Don Horn (1965-70) who had 5-Tds and 422 yards passing in a game in 1969.

Detroit mounted a great late 4th quarter, 93-yard scoring drive behind QB Matt Stafford who had 520 yards passing and 5 Tds, including a late touchdown strike to WR Tony Scheffler, giving the Lions a 41-38 lead, which they quickly relinquished.

Staffords' 520 yards is the most ever racked up against GBs defense in the franchises long history.

The Packers have won 24 straight games against the Lions at Lambeau Field, a streak going back two decades, also a record.

On October 23 kicker Mason Crosby set a GB franchise record for the longest field goal converted when he drilled a 58-yarder in the third quarter facing the Vikings, part of a four field-goal game.

The Packers won that contest 33-27 giving them a 8-0 season mark.

Green Bay enjoys a first-round playoff bye next weekend before facing an opponent (Giants, Atlanta or Detroit) in the divisional round of the playoffs starting on January 14.

Green Bay plays on Sunday, January 15.

PackRat liked the opening Green Bay offensive effort facing the Chicago Bears Sunday night at Lambeau Field, a nine-play (8 pass), 80-yard drive resulting in an early 7-0 lead.

GB WR Jermichael Finley, catching a touchdown pass in the opening quarter, helped erase memories of dropped balls in the last contest, a 14-19 defeat at Kansas City, a game which should never have been lost.

Finley later dropped another pass attempt that ended QB Aaron Rodgers' streak of completed passes at eight.

Packer WR James Jones adds a much needed 2nd quarter 2-yard TD reception, on a slant pattern, stretching the Green Bay lead to 14-3.

Rodgers completed a career-high 5 touchdown passes, including a pair to Jones and two to WR Jordy Nelson, extending his franchise record to 45 TDs this season.

With the win over 'da Bears' the road to Super Bowl XLVI goes through Green Bay, with the team enjoying an opening (wild-card) round playoff bye.

Rodgers needs five more touchdowns to tie New England Patriot Tom Bradys single season record of 50 (2007), with only 1 game remaining on the regular season slate, a home contest against the Detroit Lions, who also have earned a 2012 playoff spot.

Detroit finds themselves in the playoff picture for the first time since 1999.

If the Lions win in the wild-card round of the playoffs, they could face Green Bay in the divisional round (January 14 or 15) which would be the Packers first playoff game.

The Bears game was similar to most other contests played by the Packers this season, the teams defense surrendering a stat-shattering 441 yards of total offense, but still registering the 'W' in the win column, by limiting opponents scoring in the red zone.

The biggest Packer concern, GBs depleted offensive line, kept Rodgers upright throughout the contest, the Bears' defense front four not able to record a sack of the Packer QB, although they did get one on backup Matt Flynn, late in the game.

PackRat gives the nod of approval to GB left guard Evan Dietrich-Smith, who filled in well for T. J. Lang (moved to right tackle) keeping Bears DE Julius Peppers at 'bay' preventing him from recording his 11th sack this season.

Looking at the GB record book, Rodgers with 4,643 yards passing this season took over the #1 spot occupied by former QB Lynn Dickey (4,458-1983).

Dickey still holds the Packer record for pass attempts completed (minimum 20 attempts), 19-of-21 (90.48%), facing the New Orleans Saints in 1981.

All in all, Santa was good to the team on Christmas, beating the arch-rival Bears, securing home field advantage throughout the playoffs and establishing new franchise records.

Lets hope the good fortune continues into next year when the Packers start 2012 with a game against Detroit, the final regular season contest.

The Green Bay Packers looked ike a different club that took the field against the Chiefs last Sunday, compared to the juggernaut that appeared facing Pittsburgh in the previous Super Bowl..and it was.

Without wide receiver Greg Jennings the Packers offense was lethargic and lacked momentum... and it showed... in the final stats; the team totaling 315 yards of offensive production.

Sure, QB Aaron Rodgers completed 17 passes to 7 different receivers, too bad only one was recorded for a touchdown, a 3rd period Donald Driver TD reception giving the Packers a short-lived 7-6 advantage.

That lead did not last.

The first half of play was a comedy of errors, as tight end Jermichael Finley, Driver and wide receiver Jordy Nelson either experienced a case of fumble fingers or were plagued with penalties, none of the group catching any passes that resulted in points on the scoreboard.

Driver did redeem himself for his earlier miscues, after the half-time break, the only bright spot in a otherwise dismal GB effort

The two Packer offensive pass interference penalties to start the contest ruined any hope for a early GB lead, (which would have quieted the noisy Arrowhead crowd) Nelson flagged back-to-back for 'pushing-off fouls', thwarting any GB chance to advance the football, resulting in a pair of punts.

Its hard to accumulate any yardage when you're traveling backwards every play.

The Kansas City game plan on offense was simple and it worked. Too well.

Play a smart, (mistake free) short passing game, keeping the chains moving, thereby limiting A-Rods chances with the football.

The first eleven-play, six minute Chiefs drive to begin the game set the tempo for the remainder of the contest, Kansas clawing out 79 yards and a successful field goal conversion, giving the heavy underdogs a 3-0 lead.

PackRat noticed GB linebacker Clay Matthews standing with his hands on his hips (early in the first quarter) a sure sign of fatigue, the opening Kansas City scoring drive sucking the air out of the Packer defense and the hard-hitting Packer quarterback menace.

Green Bays defense found themselves with their backs to their own goal line all game, and the Chiefs managed to capitalize.

Give an average team enough chances to score in the red zone and they are bound to succeed, no matter how bad they are.

The loss to the 5-8 Chiefs ended GBs consecutive win streak of 13 regular season games and silenced any more discussion of the 'perfect season'.

It also halted their 19 game win streak, dating back to last year.

More bad news; the injury to key offensive lineman right tackle Bryan Bulaga (knee) and his replacement guard Derek Sherrod (R- Mississippi St) who broke his leg (carted out on a stretcher) the thinning GB offensive line can ill-afford to lose any more starting players.

That just as easily could have been Rodgers on the bottom of the pile, sustaining an injury, possibly out for the playoffs, stifling any chance of a Green Bay Super Bowl repeat.

All in all it looked like the team was confused and lacked the swagger of a Super Bowl winner... and they did.

The lone bright spot concerning the loss is that if Pittsburgh defeats San Francisco on Monday Night Football, the Packers clinch home field advantage throughout the playoffs, something that was lost with the Chiefs winning.

Lets hope the club can turn things around and wrap up the Chicago Bears Christmas Day at Lambeau, giving the faithful something to cheer about.

The UW-Whitewater Warhawks and the Mount Union Purple Raiders battled to a 3-0 halftime score in the 2011 Los Alomos Stagg Bowl, the 7th consecutive meeting between the two rivals in the D-III Championship game.

UW-W kicker Eric Kindler successfully converts a 2nd period 44-yd field goal attempt, the only score in a defensive first half.

'Hawk All-American RB Levell Coppage (#33 WWS-file pic) adds a 1-yard Whitewater touchdown run in the third quarter, giving the two-time defending Champions a 10-0 lead and Coppage his 109th career touchdown.

Coppage has 34 playoff touchdowns in 17 NCAA post-season appearances, rushing for 7,795 yards in his college career.

MU QB Matt Piloto (sacked three times by the UW-W defense) engineers a 4th quarter Purple Raider scoring drive, resulting in a 19-yd field goal conversion, closing the gap at 10-3 with seven minutes left in the contest.

UW-Whitewater tacks on a late field goal, stretching the lead to 13-3, but Mount Union answers with a 9-play, 78-yd touchdown drive, making it a 13-10 game.

The Warhawk defense holds on in the final two minutes of the contest, leading to the UW-Whitewater football programs 45th consecutive win, a streak dating back to 2008.

MU has won 10 NCAA D-III football Championships, with a 100-5 record since 2005.

The good news from the mouse-hole is that Packer wide receiver Greg Jennings did not tear his ACL as originally feared when he went down Sunday facing Oakland, a 46-16 Green Bay drubbing.

Jennings suffered a severe knee sprain and could be available for the playoffs.

Jennings has 67 receptions for 949 yards, with 9-Tds this season.

The Packers dominated Oakland with turnovers and a solid running game, the defense tallying 4-INTs and RB Ryan Grant racking up 81 yards on the ground.

Green Bay locked up a playoff bye with the Oakland win and a victory at Arrowhead Stadium this coming Sunday battling the 5-8 Kansas City Chiefs will ensure home field advantage for the club throughout the playoffs.

Starting KC QB Matt Cassell is out for the season recovering from a surgically repaired hand, replaced by Tyler Palko (Pittsburgh) who has 2-Tds and 837 yards passing this year.

Palko ended his Panthers college career 274 yards short of Dan Marinos school record8,517 yards passing.

Could be some fireworks when GB QB Aaron Rodgers and Palko meet up this coming weekend.

Rodgers has accumulated 4,125 yards passing with 39 touchdown completions.

His QB rating of 123.3 still paces the NFL, despite the 96.7 showing against the Raiders.

The 39 touchdown passes ties a franchise record set by former cheese-lover Brett Favre in 1995-1996.

In 1995 Favre won the first of three Associated Press MVP awards, leading the Packers to an 11-5 record, Green Bay's best record in nearly thirty years.

Favre passed for a career high 4,413 yards, 38 touchdowns and recorded a quarterback rating of 99.5.

The team this season has scored 58 total Tds, a new franchise/NFL record.

The 466 total points scored is also a NFL record, with three games remaining on the slate.

The contest against the Chiefs should give the Packers a 14-0 record, as Kansas City recently fired their head coach Todd Haley, replacing him with Romeo Crenell, the former defensive coordinator.

Haley won the AFC-West division last year, with a 10-6 record, piloting the team to the AFC Wild-card game, where they lost at home to the Baltimore Ravens.

The club is averaging 13.3 points per contest, ranked 31st in the league.

Last week QB Kyle Orton (formerly from Denver) injured his right finger on his throwing hand in his first game as a Kansas City Chief.

PackRat thinks the Packers should dominate this contest, a 38-3 shellacking.

The two-time defending D-III champion UW-Whitewater Warhawks stretched a 17-0 halftime advantage to a 20-0 shutout over the St. Thomas Tommies in the semifinals of the NCAA D-III playoffs.

UW-W Warhawk All-American RB Levell Coppage (Sr.-Oak Park/IL) rushed for 67 first-half yards on 14 carries and 'Hawk QB Matt Blanchard (Sr.-Lake Zurich/IL) passed for 179 yards and 1 Td, completing 14-of-19 attempts.

The D-III North-All Stars cruised to a 20-0 first half advantage over the South-All Stars behind Springfield Pride QB Josh Carter (Sr.-Marlborough/MA) who tossed three touchdown passes and ran for another score in a 27-14 North win

Framingham St. Ram WR James McCarthy (Sr.-Newton/MA) caught two touchdown passes and later received the game MVP award.

McCarthy also played on defense and recorded a interception, one of three for the North defensive unit, which included UW-Stout LB Ryan Pearcy, the only WIAC player selected.

Beloit Buccaneer WR Derek Carrier (Sr.-Edgerton/WI) grabbed a 1st quarter 27-yd TD strike, giving the early lead to the North at 6-0.

Carrier finished the regular season with 1,250 yards receiving on 75 catches, with 12 touchdown receptions.

South-All Star QB Shenandoah Hornet Dan Wright (Sr.-Verona/VA) is intercepted late in the second quarter by Luther College linebacker Kyle McGivney, thwarting a good South drive at the North 30-yard line.

Wright racked up 2,371 yards passing this season with 23 touchdowns. He averaged 231.7 yards per contest and 32.4 points per game.

South answers in the third quarter with a 21-yd Hardin-Simmons Cowboy RB Steven Rockwell (Sr.-Ore City/TX) touchdown run, closing the gap at 20-7.

Carter adds a North rushing touchdown late in the final period, a 6-yd gallop, giving the North-All Stars a 27-7 lead.

The South-All Stars refuse to die, adding a touchdown with four minutes left in the contest, making it a 27-14 game, but an ensuing recovered on-side kick is negated by a South holding penalty, sending the South to their third straight Senior Classic defeat.

The D-III Senior Classic brings players who represent 238 Division III football programs to a North vs. South all-star game the first week in December each year in Salem, Virginia.

The North has won the previous two Classics, defeating the South 20-18 last year.

UW-Stout Blue Devils linebacker Ryan Pearcy is the only WIAC player selected to play in the Senior Classic.

Pearcy led the conference in total tackles (109) and had six tackles for loss and 1 QB sack.

WIAC basketball - Wednesday results

UW-Stout mens basketball head coach Eddie Andrist and the Blue Devils faced UW-Superior at the Johnson Fieldhouse in Menomonie Wednesday night, both schools looking to rebound from conference defeats last weekend, Stout coming off a tough 84-51 loss at UW-Whitewater, the Yellowjackets dropping their last contest at UW-Stevens Point 85-47.

Andrist, entering his 9th year piloting the program (496 career wins) last season had a 16-11 overall record.

UW-Stout forward Jarvis Ragland (So.-Milwaukee/WI) poured in 23 points in the teams' season opening win over Macalester College (Wartburg Tournament 11/18) as the Blue Devils cruised to a 53-35 win.

Facing the Yellowjackets at the Johnson Fieldhouse, Ragland tallied 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field, but the Blue Devils fall short 64-51.

UW-Superior guard Ben Aalfs (Sr.-Hutchinson/MN) paced all scorers with 22 points, on 8-of-17 shooting, adding 4 rebounds and 6 assists.

UW-Stout linebacker Ryan Pearcy (Sr.- Plover/WI) has been selected as the only WIAC player to participate in the D-III Football Senior Classic, held on Friday, December 9 in Salem, Va, site of the Stagg Bowl.

Pearcy led the WIAC with 109 tackles, 53 solo, finishing the year with 6 tackles-for-loss and one sack.

Pearcy was the WWS player of the week in week-2 of the season recording 20 tackles in a 20-17 Blue Devil road win over Jamestown.

In his 4 year college career, Pearcy racked up 262 total tackles, (134 solo) with 4.5 sacks and 13.0 tackles for loss.

The Green Bay Packer 2011-12 dream season continues on for another week.

12-0. No losses. Undefeated. Unbeatable. Unstoppable. Indescribable. Well, you get the rosy Green Bay picture.

Oh yeah, lets not forget to mention, a 2012 NFC playoff birth, NFC-North division champions, and only 4 games remaining on the slate, with three home contests.

Whats really interesting about 'the streak' is that it comes on the heels of a Super Bowl victory, the start of a NEW dynasty in the NFL.

QB Aaron Rodgers words from last season (after the Super Bowl win over Pittsburgh) are ringing true, that this is not the end, but just the beginning.

He stated that 'we will be here again', and PackRat has little reason to believe it won't happen.

Rodgers' streak of 11 consecutive games with a QB rating of 110.0 or better, sadly came to an end, despite the 38-35 win over the Giants, Rodgers with a rating of 106.2 in that contest, still throwing for 369 yards and 4-Tds.

For the season A-Rod has 37 Tds, 3,844 yards passing and 5 Ints.

His QB rating of 125.3 paces the league.

The Championship belt poise, borrowed by Rodgers from World Wrestling superstar Triple HHH (Paul Michael Levesque) is now being used by players throughout the NFL and college, a tribute to the clubs successes this past year.

The last defeat for the Packers occurred on December 19 of 2010, a 31-27 road-loss to the New England Patriots in week 15, a game that Rodgers missed due to injury.

The winning streak is impressive at the pro football level.

However, look at the success of D-III football powerhouse UW-Whitewater and the Warhawks, who have racked up 42 consecutive victories, with back-to-back-Stagg Bowl Championships, (and an opportunity to three-peat this year) and a 12-0 record pales in comparison.

UW-Whitewaters last defeat was in 2008.

PackRat hopes the Green Bay organization have taken notice of the longest continuous win streak in all of football and then borrow a page or two out of the Warhawks playbook for the upcoming contest, possibly extending 'the streak' one more week against Oakland at Lambeau this coming Sunday.

PackRat wants the Green Bay faithful to show their support for the Green and Gold, wearing their team jerseys, hats, jackets, etc., and stocking up on his favorites for the next game, cheese-whiz, cheese curds and cheesy-fries; who knows, he might be watching the contest from your house.

Though many automatically assume the 'G' refers to the city of Green Bay, it actually represents the word "greatness" which described the Packers to the letter during the 1960's and now in the modern era.

The Wisconsin Badgers, representing the Leaders division, faced the Michigan State Spartans (Legends) in the inaugural Big 10 Championship game at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, IN., Saturday night, the winner advancing to the 2012 Rose Bowl.

UW-W QB Russell Wilson (Sr.-Richmond/VA) puts the Badgers on the scoreboard first with a 40-yd Td completion to WR Jared Abbrederis (So.-Wautoma/WI) capping a 8-play, 62-yd Wisconsin drive.

UW-Badger RB Montee Ball (Jr.-Wentzville/Mo) adds a pair of rushing Tds in the first quarter, on 13 attempts for 105 yards, including a 26-yd rumble, giving Wisconsin a 21-7 cushion.

That lead wouldnt last as the Spartans score twenty-two unanswered 2nd quarter points, taking a 29-21 advantage into the halftime break.

After a back-and forth third period defensive struggle, Wisconsin trailed 36-28 entering the final period, and thats when the fireworks begin.

With 13:25 left in the fourth quarter Ball closes the gap at 34-36, with a rushing Td from the goal line, but the Badgers fail to convert the two-point play.

Michigan then converts a 25-yd. field goal attempt, stretching the lead to 39-34
with 8:00 minutes left in the contest.

An unbelievable 3rd down 36-yd pass completion from Wilson to WR Jeff Duckworth (So.-Cincinnati/OH) gives Wisconsin a first down and goal with 4:00 minutes remaining, and one play later Ball rumbles into the end zone (for his 4th TD), Wisconsin up 40-39.

The team converts a two-point play and the Wisconsin defense holds on in the final seconds to secure the 42-39 win.

UW-W Warhawk RB Levell Coppage (Sr.-Oak Park/IL) scores on the 'Hawks opening drive giving the back-to-back defending National Champions an early 7-0 lead over the Salisbury Sea Gulls at Perkins Stadium on Saturday (12/3), in the third round of the NCAA DIII football playoffs.

Coppage adds another rushing TD early in the second period, capping a short 5-play, 40-yard Whitewater drive, Salisbury down 14-0, then trailing 17-0 at the break.

UW-Whitewater goes on to a 34-14 win, advancing to the semifinals next week facing St Thomas.

The St. Thomas Tommies outscored WIAC opponent UW-River Falls 45-22 in week-2 of the regular season, part of a 13-0 overall year.

On Saturday (12/3) St. Thomas defeated #3 ranked St. John Fisher 45-10 on the road at O’Shaughnessy Stadium.

Tommies QB Dakota Tracy (Sr.-Geneva/IL) appeared in 13 games this season with 138 completions on 240 attempts for 2,182 yards, 20-Tds, and 9-Ints.

St. Thomas RB Colin Tobin (Sr.-Itasca/IL) also played in 13 contests, with 1,579 rushing yards on 279 attempts, racking up 22-Tds.

Number #2 ranked Mount Union erased Wabash from the NCAA DIII playoff picture, stretching a 17-0 halftime advantage to 20-0 ending third period action, advancing to the semifinals with a 20-8 final score.

The Purple Raiders face the Wesley Wolverines (12-1) next weekend.

Wesley went on the road to Tiger Stadium on Saturday (in a rematch of last years quarterfinals) and downed Mary Hardin Baylor 27-24.

According to Jerry Sgoda of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, the Bucks will face the Minnesota Timberwolves for their miniature preseason.

NFL Green Bay Packer - news

Green Bay Packer defensive back Erik Walden, arrested last Friday for a domestic dispute, referred all questions to head coach Mike McCarthy, including his availability for the upcoming match against the New York Giants.

McCarthy will address the media on Wednesday.

Walden paced the team on Thanksgiving with 8 solo stops facing the Detroit Lions, and losing him for the next game could be a blow to the struggling GB defensive front.

Linebacker Frank Zombo (2-Central Michigan) will replace Walden if he's unable to play this Sunday.

Zombo led the Packer rookies last season with 4 sacks.

Lions defensive end Ndamukong Suh was suspended by the league for a couple of contests after his antics in the Green Bay-Detroit game were revealed to the NFL front office, pounding Packer Evan Dietrich-Smiths head into the turf, then jumping on the arm of the GB guard, the kicking causing a ejection.

McCarthy has nothing but praise for his Packers in the Tuesday media address, stating "Winning a division road game, in a dome, on national TV, and on a short week of preparation is a tremendous challenge.

I was very proud of the way our team approached the game and completed the stretch of three games in 11 days.

I think we are only the second team to ever do that. It tells you a lot about the character and focus of our football team."

Members of the undefeated 1972 Miami Dolphins have taken notice of Green Bays consecutive win streak and QB Aaron Rodgers, former fish RB Mercury Morris, on a radio program mentioning prior to last weeks game that Rodgers belt poise is 'classy swagger'.

Only five teams have won all their games in a season, 1934 and 1942 Chicago Bears, 1948 Cleveland Browns, 1972 Miami Dolphins, and the 2007 New England Patriots.

GB has the NFC record for most consecutive victories after a winning Super Bowl, 11.

Denver owns the NFL record of 13 victories in the 1998 campaign, after winning Super Bowl XXXII defeating Green Bay 31-24.

PackRat has a synopsis of the New York Giants / New Orleans Saints game played on Monday Night Football at the Mercedes Benz SuperDome in New Orleans, the Giants a team the Packers face in week-13 at New Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

New York QB Eli Manning (8-Mississippi), 3000+ yards passing, 20-Td completions, is having perhaps his best year, rallying the team five times in the fourth quarter to victory this season, including a 24-20 road-win over the highly touted New England Patriots in week-9.

That scenario did not repeat against the Saints Monday night, although Manning did end the evening with 21 consecutive completions, and 406 yards passing.

After a scoreless 1st period, New Orleans QB Drew Brees (10-Purdue), culminates a 10-play, 80-yd 2nd quarter drive with a 4-yd TD completion to WR Lance Moore, giving New Orleans a 7-0 lead which they never relinquish.

Brees has 38 consecutive contests with at least 1-Td pass, a streak that started in week-4 of 2009.

The 'Golden Arm' former Baltimore Colt Johnny Unitas (5/1933 - 9/2002) threw a TD completion in 47 consecutive games (1956-60), an NFL record that still stands.

Interestingly, the Colts and Unitas won the NFL championship in 1958, defeating the New York Giants 23–17 in sudden death overtime.

It was the first overtime game in NFL history and often referred to as 'the greatest game ever played'.

The Packers defeated Brees and the Saints 42-34 in week-1 of the season, a game the Pack could have lost, a late 4th quarter goal-line stand saving the day for Green Bay.

Manning, after leading the Giants seventy-two yards on a nine-play drive, is picked off in the end zone by New Orleans LB Will Herring, thwarting a key New York red-zone scoring opportunity in the first period.

Since entering the league in 2004, no quarterback has thrown more interceptions in the red zone than Manning, who now has 16.

It was Mannings 3rd interception in the red zone this season.

The Giants answer the Saints with a 46-yd field goal conversion, capping a 9-play 46-yd drive, closing the gap at 7-3 in the second quarter.

New Orleans TE Jimmy Graham scores a 5-yd TD padding the Saints advantage at 14-3, and Brees adds another late second quarter TD, the Giants defense coughing up 354 yards through two periods of play and a 21-3 deficit.

New Orleans adds a pair of Tds in the third quarter, including a 8-yd Td run by Brees, giving the Saints a 35-10 lead entering the final period.

Brees is the first player ever with four passing touchdowns, 350 passing yds and a rushing touchdown on Monday Night Football.

Brees has 27 career 350-yd games, tied with former Miami Dolphin Dan Marino for most ever.

New Orleans goes on to a 49-24 lopsided win over the Giants, Brees finishing the night with 363 yards passing on 38 attempts, with 24 receptions.

The Giants streak of 23 consecutive contests with a defensive turnover was halted, the club giving up a stat-shattering 465 total yards.

Injuries have taken their toll on the New York roster this season, tackle Will Beaty out of the Saints contest (eye injury) and WR Mario Manningham sidelined with an ankle problem.

Giants star defensive end Osi Umenyiora (9-Troy) has 7 sacks this NFL year but is also battling a knee injury and was a non-factor in the contest, not participating in the second half.

The New York running game behind backup RB Brandon Jacobs accumulated 70 yards on the ground, a 3.3 yard average per attempt (22). Jacobs has 320 yards rushing on 120 attempts this year with 4 Tds.

RB Ahmad Bradshaw also did not participate.
New York wide receiver Victor Cruz ( 2-Massachusetts ) had 9 catches for 157 yards and 2 Tds, including a 70-yd. gallop.

All in all it was a sloppy (four fumbles), penalty plagued ( four fouls), contest for the Giants and PackRat thinks the team that takes the field this Sunday against the Packers will not be the same club that was defeated 49-24.

They will be looking for redemption, after losing the last three games.

In the second round of the NCAA DIII playoffs held on Saturday (11/26) the UW-Whitewater Warhawks enjoyed a 28-14 halftime advantage over the Franklin College Grizzlies at Perkins Stadium, two FC turnovers converted to Warhawk touchdowns the difference in the contest.

UW-W adds a pair of Tds in the 3rd quarter, the back-to-back defending National Champions cruising to a 41-14 win.

UW-W QB Matt Blanchard (Sr.-Lake Zurich/IL), a 2011 Gagliardi award finalist, completed 11-of-14 pass attempts for 141 yards and 2-Tds.

'Hawk RB Levell Coppage (Sr.-Oak Park /IL) awarded the WIAC player of the year honors the last two seasons, is replaced late in the third quarter, the game final all but determined at 41-14, Coppage finishing with 221 yards rushing on 21 attempts, adding 3-Tds to his career total (101).

Franklin College QB Jonny West (So.-Avon/IN) 22-of-48, 209 yards, 1-TD.

#2 Mount Union got by Centre 30-10 led by Raider QB Matt Piloto (Jr.-Rotunda West/FL) who completed 13-of-27 pass attempts for 189 yards and 2 TDs.

MU RB Blair Skilliter (Jr.-Curtice/IL) rushed 18 times for 78 yards and 1-Td, part of a 135-yard Purple Raider effort on the ground.

PackRats NFL Christmas party is starting early this year.

Especially with the lowly division rival Detroit Lions all wrapped up and placed under the faithfuls Xmas tree after the Green Bay 27-15 win at Ford Field on Thanksgiving.

PackRat is heading out on Black Friday searching the concrete and mortar stores for the finest big screen television cheese-whiz can buy to enjoy the remainder of the NFL year on. Why?

Because the 11-0 Green Bay season start is the best in the teams' long history, (dating back to August 11, 1919) and the famed mouse doesn't want to miss any of the action.

The organization has won 13 World Championships, but has never been undefeated this late in the year.

Previously, the best season beginnings for GB was 10-0, set in 1929 and 1962, a year that the club finished 13-1.

Former Packer gridiron general QB Bart Starr (1956-71) won 5 World Championships from 1961-67, behind legendary head coach Vince Lombardi, who finished his career 98-30-4, but Starr never had a 11-0 season start.

Starr and the Packers also won the first two Super Bowls in 1967-68, defeating Kansas City 35-10 in 1967, and in 1968 downing Oakland 33-14 at the Orange Bowl in Miami, after earning their way with a 21-17 win over the Dallas Cowboys in the famed Ice Bowl.

But the fact remains that since the invent of the 16 game season the team has never recorded more than 13 wins, that however could change this year.

GB won 12 contests in 1929, and in 1962, 1996, 1997 and 2007 the club recorded 13 victories.

From 1928-30 Green Bay won 23 consecutive games, a record that still stands.

An undefeated streak of 12 contests sets this team apart from all others and could cement their place in NFL history, but in order for the dream to continue the club must win next weekend on the road facing the 6-4 New York Giants at Metlife Stadium.

The remainder of the GB season has the team playing three contests at home (Oakland, Chicago, Detroit) with an away-game against the Kansas City Chiefs (4-6-0) at Arrowhead Stadium scheduled for December 18.

The match against the defending NFC-North Champion division rival Chicago Bears will be played on Christmas Day, Sunday, December 25.

(Minnie, the clubs only professional cheerleader will be pulling out the pom-poms for this game).

In Green Bay Packer team news linebacker Erik Walden was arrested early Friday morning on suspicion of felony domestic abuse/ violence, it was reported by ESPN news and the Green Bay Press Gazette.

With the 35-26 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday (11/20), Green Bay has racked up 16 consecutive regular season victories dating back to the 2010 season, and have matched a run made in 1962 when they went 13-1, with 10 straight wins.

Interestingly, GBs undefeated streak in 1962 was ended by the Detroit Lions, a 26-14 Packer loss on November 22, the same club that the 'Green and Gold' clash with on Thanksgiving this season.

PackRat hopes that the game results are different after 49 years.

In that contest, Green Bay trailed the Lions 26-0 into the 4th quarter, Packer RB Jim Taylor then giving GB their only offensive score, a 4-yd TD run.

The Lions defense sacked Packer QB Bart Starr an earth-shaking 11 times.

The Buccaneers victory came with a costly price tag, RB James Starks hobbling over to the GB sidelines in the final period, nursing an knee sprain, a player that the Packers can ill-afford to lose.

Rookie RB Alex Green (Hawaii) was lost for the season in Week 7, and backup Ryan Grant does not appear to be the 1,000 yard rusher the Packers enjoyed for three seasons, still possibly recovering from an ankle injury that sidelined him for most of the 2010 campaign.

Looking ahead, the 7-3 Detroit Lions are piloted by QB Matt Stafford who threw for 335 yards and 5-scores in a 49-35 second half comeback win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

Staffords 5 Td completions is a career high. Stafford has 2,508 yards passing this season with 20 Td passes. He averages 278 yards per contest.

Detroit RB Kevin Smith rumbled for 140 yards and 3 scores against the Panthers, and Stafford completed 25-of-28 pass attempts, after throwing two 1st period interceptions.

The Detroit defense is ranked second in the NFC, surrendering 327.5 yards per contest and 21.9 points per game.

The GB defense is ranked near the cellar in this category coughing up 391 yards per game.

This could be the Packers toughest challenge since week-1, a 42-34 win over the New Orleans Saints.

Thankfully, the GB offense is ranked number one in the NFC in accumulating points, averaging 35.4 points per game, behind QB Aaron Rodgers who has 3,168 yards passing and 31 Td completions. Rodgers QB rating through 10 contests is 128.8.

Keeping the franchise standing upright and avoiding injury is key to 'the dream' continuing this week at Ford Field, and PackRat is concerned about the 25 QB sacks A-Rod has taken, which could result in an quick end to a unbelievable year.

(Minnie has heard rumors that some of the undefeated 17-0 (14-0 regular season) 1972 Miami Dolphins have noticed the streak and are voicing their diaapproval).

Green Bay, with its storied history and now 10-0, coming off a victorious Super Bowl year, would love to join the ranks of the undefeated, and cement their place in NFL history as one of the greatest teams ever.

However, in order to achieve ultimate NFL greatness, the Packer offensive front line must do a much better job protecting A-Rod or he could become a cheerleader.

The Green Bay franchise has no professional Cheerleaders for road contests.

Injured warriors replace the cheerleaders on the sidelines, rooting for their former backups, hopefully bound for Super Bowl glory.

Lets pray that Rodgers is not injured on Thanksgiving, possibly ruining the Packers post-season party dreams.

The defending Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers 'banged on the drum all day' at Lambeau Field facing the surprisingly tough Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-6), holding on for a 35-26 home win.

A 15-play, 88-yard 1st period drive gives the Packers a 7-0 advantage, but Tampa Bay RB LeGarrette Blount closes the gap at 14-10 in the second quarter, galloping for a 54-yd TD.

The GB fans, rocking out to the Todd Rundgren song after every Green Bay touchdown, were not disappointed however, as the team stretches a 21-10 halftime advantage to 28-19 into the final period, registering their 10th straight win, tying a mark set in 1962.

UW-W RBs Levell Coppage (Sr.-Oak Park/IL) and Byron Stanford (Fr.-Chicago/IL) combine for 4-Tds on 29 attempts, gaining 194 yards on the ground, part of a 475-yd 'Hawk offensive effort.

Coppage tallied 3 TDs in the first quarter giving the 'Hawks a 24-0 advantage which they stretched to 38-0 at the break.

Warhawk QB Matt Blanchard (Sr.-Lake Zurich/IL) completed 12-of-18 pass attempts for 168 yards and 1-TD.

The Brits totaled 246 yards of offense behind Albion QB Spenser Krauss (Jr.-Tipton/MI); 16-of-30 passing for 133 yards, picked off twice.

UW-W DB Noah Timm (Jr.-Two Rivers/WI) nabbed an errant 1st quarter Krauss pass, returned to the Albion 11-yd line, setting up the first Warhawk score, a two-yd Coppage TD run.

The 59-0 win is the most points scored by UW-W in the postseason since a 70-7 win over Lakeland College in 2009.

The victory increases UW-Whitewaters consecutive win streak to 41 games, the longest streak in college football (all divisions).

Delaware Valley College totaled 604 yards of offense, including seven rushing touchdowns and 397 yards on the ground as the Aggies defeated visiting Norwich University (VT), 62-10.

St. John Fisher went on the road to Baltimore and upset St. Johns Hopkins 23-12 behind backup QB Ahmed Hassanien (Jr.-Binghamton/NY) who completed 8-of-13 pass attempts for 162 yards and 1-TD.

The Cardinals defense recorded 5 INTs on the day, in the process snapping a 15-game Hopkins win-streak, second longest in college football (all divisions).

The first round of the NCAA D-III playoffs begin on Saturday, November 19, with the #1 ranked UW-Whitewater Warhawks (WWS-file pic) defending their back-to-back Stagg Bowl championships with a contest against the Albion (MI) Britons.

The Brits own a 6-4 overall record, losing their first three games of the season, including a 14-3 non-conference home defeat at Sprankle-Sprandel Stadium against the UW-Stevens Point Pointers in week-3.

Top offensive and defensive players for the Albion (MI) Brits include;

Running back Clinton Orr (Jr.Buchanan/MI) claimed the MIAAs most valuable offensive player award and cornerback Chris Greenwood (Sr.-Detroit/MI) who earned the conferences most valuable defensive player honors.

Orr rushed for 1,000 yards and 6-TDs this season and owns the school record 3,163 yards rushing in 3 seasons.

Orr rumbled for 200 yards last weekend in a Brit 41-14 win over Trine.

Greenwood has 2-INTs and 21 solo tackles playing in 10 contests; Greenwood also recorded 4 pass break-ups and 6 passes defensed.

Starting Briton QB Spencer Krauss (Jr.-Tipton/MI) played in 8 games, completing 140 of 234 attempts for 1,708 yards and 12-TDs.

Krauss, rushing 20 times for 32 yards and 1-TD, was also picked off 7 times .

Backup QB Alex Harris (Sr.-Hanover/MI) completed 42-of-82 pass attempts for 514 yards and 4-TDs.

The team also has the top offense in the conference, averaging 34.8 points per game.

RB Levell Coppage (Sr.-Oak Park/ IL) owns the UW-W rushing record (7,082 yards), racking up 1,405 yards this season, with 17 TDs.
The UW-W running back has 98 career TDs.

Coppage had a season high 245 yards rushing on 29 attempts in week-8 facing UW-SP, a 31-16 'Hawk victory. Coppage also rushed for 3-TDs in the game.

Coppage was selected on Wednesday as the 2011 WIAC football Player of the Year and Warhawks head coach Lance Leipold claimed the George Chryst Coach of the Year honor.

Coppage also won the player of the year award last year(2010).

'Hawk QB Matt Blanchard (SR.-Lake Zurich/IL) played in all 10 games with 2,133 yards passing (2nd WIAC) on 238 attempts.

Blanchard completed 163 passes (68.49%) with 19 TDs, tops in the WIAC.

His 167.6 QB efficiency rating paced the conference.

After leading the team to the 2010 NCAA D-III playoffs, Blanchard finished the year on the sidelines, out with a thumb injury, look for Blanchard to heat up the 2011 playoffs, competing in his final college contests.

WR Tyler Huber (Jr.-Mukwonago/WI ) led the WIAC in yards per game (90.3) catching 54 balls this season for 903 yards and 8-TDs. Huber was 5th in the conference in all-purpose yards (929).

On the defensive side of the ball hard-hitting Hawk LB Greg Arnold (Sr.-Big Bend/WI) has 41 total tackles this season (32nd WIAC) playing in 9 games.

LB Kyle Wismer (So.-Spring Grove/IL) 10 games, 33 solo stops, 10 assisted.

DL Casey Casper (Sr.-Dousman/WI) 10 games, 24 solo, 19 assisted.

Casper registered a 8 tackle, 1.5 sack performance in week-6 playing against UW-Stout, a 42-21 Warhawk home win.

The UW-W defense gave up 827 yards on 311 attempts, with 7-TDs, averaging 82.9 yards per contest, 1st in the conference.

The Hawks also paced the WIAC in overall defense, giving up 259.4 yards per game.

The team only surrendered an average of 12.4 points per match in 2011.

The winner will advance to the second round of the NCAA DIII playoffs to face Franklin University or Thomas More College on Saturday, November 26, 2011.

The location will be announced Sunday, November 20 with a 12:00 kickoff per NCAA recommendation.

The third round will be played Saturday, December 3, the fourth round (semi-finals) on Saturday, December 10, and the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl on Friday, December 16 in Salem, Virginia.

2011 NCAA Division III football playoff West Regional pairings.
-1st round-

The WIAC and defending NCAA D-III champion UW-Whitewater Warhawks (7-0 10-0) have a first round playoff game against Albion College (6-0, 6-4), champions of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association(MIAA). Kickoff at Perkins Stadium is set for Saturday, November 19, at 12:00.

The UW-W ticket office, in the Connor University Center on the main campus mall, will be handling tickets which will be sold at the stadium on game day beginning at 10:00.

Tickets are $11 for adults, $5 for students and senior citizens. Call 262-472-2222 for ticket information.

Albion was defeated 14-3 at home in Week-3 facing UW-Stevens Point.

In other NCAA D-III football news;

The 2011 Gagliardi Trophy will be presented in Salem, Va., site of the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl, on Wednesday, Dec. 14, two evenings prior to the D-III football national championship game.

For the first time since its inception all four finalists will be on hand for the announcement and award presentation ceremony.

The award is named after John Gagliardi, Saint John's legendary Hall of Fame head football coach who has 483 career victories (1953-present), the most in college football history.

The Gagliardi Trophy was first presented in 1993. Since that time, the award has become one of the leading collegiate football awards and is widely recognized as the premier individual award in Division III football, honoring excellence in athletics, academics and community service.

Nominations for the honor are made by the college president with supporting letters and credentials provided by the head football coach.

After screening the nominations, the SJU J-Club Board of Directors narrows the field to 10 finalists.

The 35-member Gagliardi Trophy national selection committee reviews the credentials, ranks the candidates 1-10 and then casts their votes.

Starting in 2007, fans were given one collective vote on the sports website d3football.com. The student / athlete with the highest vote total is named recipient.

UW-Whitewater's Justin Beaver won the award in 2007 and Aaron Rusch UW-W WR from Theresa, WI., was a 2010 finalist.

Eric Watt, Trine QB from Kentland, Ind., won the award last year.

The UW-Stevens Point Pointers dominated the WIAC mens and womens divisions last season, the men finsihing with a 14-2 conference record and the women an undefeated 16-0.

The Pointers mens team kick off their 2011-12 regular season with a non-conference game against Lawrence University Tuesday night at Bennett Court.

The Pointers return 6'-3' guard Tyler Tillema (So.-Randolph/WI) who averaged 9.9 ppg. last season.

Tillema also registered 2.5 boards per contest, with 25 season steals.

UW-SP and UW-EC clash on January 7th and UW-Stout has a date with the Pointers in Menomonie at the Johnson Fieldhouse on January 11th, 2012.

WWS WIAC J. F. O'Grady All-Class Gridiron team

John F. O'Grady, a 2008 Wisconsin Coaches Hall of Fame inductee and 1995 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Coach of the Year, piloted the UW-River Falls Falcons football program for 22 years, with associations to the University stretching back almost four decades.

O'Grady, 'Coach O', retired from coaching the UW-RF football program in 2010.

WIAC student/athletes earning a starting line-up spot on the WWS 2011 John F. O'Grady All-Class Gridiron team include;

UW-Eau Claire- RB Joel Sweeney (So.- Tomah/WI) 10 TDs (2nd WIAC) 8 rushing and 2 TD receptions. Sweeney finished the season with 602 yards rushing on 153 attempts (4th WIAC).

UW-Whitewater- WR Tyler Huber (Jr.-Mukwonago/WI) 10 games, 54 receptions (2nd WIAC) for 903 yards, 8-TDs, 16.7 yard average per reception.

Huber caught 8 passes for a season high 156 yards and 2 TDs in Week-5 facing UW-RFs.

That effort garnered Huber WWS player of the week honors.

Look for the UW-W wide receiver to make some offensive noise in the 2011 NCAA D-III playoffs starting on Saturday (11/19) at Perkins Stadium facing Albion (MI).

UW-Oshkosh- WR Garrie Fox (Sr.-Madison-Edgewood) 10 games, his 44 receptions led the Titans. Fox had 650 receiving yards with 8-TDs, ranked 2nd in the conference in yards per game (65.0).

UW-Stout- K Richard Marteney (So.-Greenfield/WI) 10 games, 11 field goal conversions on 16 attempts (68.8%) 2nd in the conference. Marteney also successfully converted 11-of-12 PATs.

In 2010 Marteney set a Blue Devil school record when he successfully converted 9-of-9 extra point attempts against Eureka College, a 63-0 Stout spanking.

UW-Platteville-DB Ryan Mcwethy (Jr.-Oregon/IL) 10 games, 48 solo stops, 22 assisted tackles, 70 total (14th WIAC).

Mcwethy earned WWS player of the week honors in week-3 with 16 total tackles against previously nationally ranked (7) Wheaton (IL).

UW-Stevens Point-LB Cody Seibel (So.-Kewauskum/WI) 10 games, 48 tackles, 31 assisted, (8th WIAC).

In 2010 Seibel recorded 37 tackles, (20 solo) with 3.5 tackles for loss and one QB sack.

UW-River Falls- WR John Wahlstrom (Jr.-Hastings/MN) 10 games, 59 receptions for 384 yards. Walstroms 59 catches ranked him #1 in the WIAC.

Wahlstrom had 12 catches for 77 yards in week-5 facing UW-Whitewater.

UW-La Crosse - WR Jake Welch (Jr.-West Salem/WI) 9 games, 12 punt returns, 114 yards; his 9.5 yard average-per-return paced the conference.

The Packer faithful could get used to the winning environment that head coach Mike McCarthy and general manager Ted Thompson have fostered this season, and deservedly so, as the team has won 15 straight contests going back to last year.

A streak that few football analysts have ever witnessed, dating back to 1962 when the team went 13-1.

PackRat is looking forward to home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, something that was denied to the fans last season when the team went on the road for three games, leading to the Super Bowl.

QB Aaron Rodgers and his play-calling ability is what drives 'the streak' to greater heights every week; Rodgers completing 23-of-30 passes for 250 yards and 4-TDs Monday night facing the division rival Minnesota Vikings, a 45-7 Packer blowout home victory.

Looking at the GB record books, Rodgers is on pace to shatter the single season Packer passing record, currently held by Lynn Dickie (1983-4458 yds) and with his 28 TD passes could be on track to erase New England Patriot QB Tom Bradys NFL record 50-TD pass season in 2007.

Dickie owns the GB highest single-game completion percentage record, completing 19-of-21 passes (90.4%) against New Orleans in 1981 and most yards passing in a game, 418 against Tampa Bay in 1980.

These old records could be in jeopardy next weekend at Lambeau Field when GB hosts the Buccaneers who are ranked 28th in pass defense, giving up 263 yards per contest.

Lets not forget kicker Mason Crosbys streak of 23 straight successful field goal conversions, also a team record.

The Green Bay defense finally decided to halt the downward spiral that ranked them near the NFL cellar in yards per contest, this contest surrendering a paltry 266 yards, and 1 lone TD.

PackRat gives the nod of approval to LB Clay Matthews who sacked rookie Viking QB Christian Ponder a pair of times, not letting him get comfortable in the pocket long enough to make huge plays happen.

Kudos to nose tackle B.J. Raji, who earned his paycheck this week, helping hold premier Minnesota RB Adrian Peterson to 51 yards, GBs run defense a huge contributing factor in the win, as Peterson rushed for a stat- shattering 175 yards in the two teams last meeting, a nail-biting 33-27 Packer victory.

However the 'winning environment' needs tweaking in order to continue.

GB rookie return specialist Randall Cobb (R-Kentucky) a question mark that has no definitive answer.

To open the game he ignites the stadium fans with an electrifying 80 kickoff, returned for a TD, then later muffs an easy punt return attempt, leading to the Vikings only score.

Cobb has three mishandled punts this season, common 'rookie' mistakes when you have 250-lb linemen breathing down your neck, these things, hopefully, can be corrected.

The main thing is the team has a special teams player who can be 'special'.

Cobb, a 2011 second round NFL draft pickup (64th overall), already owns the Packer rookie return record of 108 yards, set against New Orleans in week-1.

GBs offensive front line deserves credit in this victory, OG Marshall Newhouse keeping sack-monster Viking DE Jared Allen in check most of the night, so that Allen was forced to line up against other players, showing Newhouse's effectiveness.

Allen was credited with 1 sack, although he had Rodgers on the ground a trio of times.

A great defensive player and one whos not going to be denied his sacks.

Watching Rodgers go down is painful for a true Packers fan, every drop possibly ending the dream season, a broken ankle or hand, a crushing blow to a year with such promise.

PackRat (as coach) would hire the best offensive linemen cheese-whiz could buy to protect 'the franchise' from any possible further damage.

The concussions A-Rod suffered last year, (resulting in two GB losses) added to any additional injuries, could spell disaster for the team, A-Rod cannot be replaced.

You just dont go out and pick up a QB of A-Rods caliber off the waiver-wire and expect him to lead the Packers to a Super Bowl, not in this league.

Elite QBs come around once every 10 years, if a team is fortunate enough to acquire one. Lucky for the GB faithful, Rodgers was waiting when ex cheese-lover Brett Favre got the boot.

The best receiving corps in football demonstrated to a national audience how it's done in the NFL, WR Jordy Nelson racking up a pair of TDs catch/ runs and the ever-reliable Greg Jennings nabbing a 1st quarter TD, giving GB a 14-0 cushion.

The Packers put it all together in this contest, including RB James Starks keeping the Viking defense on their heels to the tune of 63 yards on 13 carries.

Nothing spectacular, but when you have the best receivers in football, a running game is just a diversion.

PackRat feels that the Packers are saving the running game for the post-season, much like last season when Starks had his most carries in the playoffs.

Lets not start jumping hoops with the winning streak, however, because GB has played a second-place schedule this season and hasen't faced a tough team yet, except the Saints in week-1, which could have been lost.

Ahead, over the horizon, lurks the surging Detroit Lions and always tough New York Giants, both road-contests in harsh environments which could halt the streak in its tracks.

Let's hope GB feasts on Lion-meat this coming Thanksgiving, a special game for Packer fans in front of another national crowd.

The only NFC contest in town.

Packer return specialist Reggie Cobb took the Minnesota opening kickoff 80 yards to 'da haus' Monday night at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, then did a Lambeau Leap to the delight of the faithful, en route to a convincing 45-7 victory.

Green Bay accumulated 356 yards of total offense while the Packer defense surrendered only 266 yards between the twenties, as the team records their ninth season win.

In week-2 facing St. Johns Neu completed 13-of-18 passes for 242 yards and 3-TDS, a 47-19 Blugold road win.

UW-Whitewater - RB Levell Coppage (Sr.-Oak Park/IL) led high powered Warhawk offense to their 7th consecutive WIAC championship. 1,405 yards rushing this season on 241 attempts, averaging 5.8 yards per carry.

Coppage broke UW-Ws career rushing record of 6,584 yards set by Justin Beaver (2004-07), also adding 17 TDs to his career total (97).

UW-River Falls- LB Nate Smits (Jr.-Hudson/WI) 60 solo stops, 14 assisted, 10 tackles for loss, 3 sacks. Smits, the WWS player of the Week in week-5, recorded a pair of sacks against UW-Oshkosh.

UW-La Crosse- RB Ben Hertrampf (So.-Fennimore/WI) 9 games, 135 attempts, 858 yards, 6.4 yard average, 8-TDs. Hertrampf earned WWS player of the Week honors in week-8, rumbling for 182 yards and 3 TDs in a 30-24 win at Titan Stadium.

WWS WIAC player of the week - defense

The UW-Platteville defensive front line held visiting UW-Stevens Point to a season-low 219 yards of total offense in a 51-7 blowout on Saturday (11/12) at Ralph E. Davis Stadium (Pioneer Stadium), the seventh season win for the UW-Platteville Pioneers.

The Pioneers' stiff defense registered seven turnovers on the afternoon, including two interceptions and three forced fumbles, also sacking Pointer QB Mitch Beau (So.-Fond Du Lac/WI) twice.

Pioneer DB Jacob Zilbar (Fr.-Tampa/FL ) paced the UW-P defense with 8 total tackles, 1 INT, and 1 tackle for loss.

Also making some defensive noise on the gridiron this weekend;

UW-Oshkosh Titan linebacker Taylor Goodman (Jr.-South Wayne/WI) 8-solo, 6-assisted tackles in a 35-3 UW-O win over visiting UW-Stout at J. J. Keller Field.

UW-Stevens Point LB Collin Johnson (Sr.-Sheboygan/WI) was all over the field on Saturday (11/12) recording 16 tackles (11-solo) in the 51-7 Platteville shellacking of UW-SP, the worst defeat for the Pointers against UW-P since 1972.

WWS WIAC player of the week- offense

On Saturday (11/12) UW-Eau Claire Blugold TE Austin Goetsch (Jr.-Waunakee/WI) caught four passes at Ramer Field against the River Falls Falcons, two of them returned for touchdowns as the 'Golds win 27-21.

Goetsch nabbed a 1st quarter 7-yd QB Austin Neu pass attempt, taking it to the house, closing a 7-0 UW-EC deficit, then, later in the 3rd period put the 'Golds up to stay with a 6-yard TD catch, giving the Blugolds a 24-14 advantage.

Playing in all 10 games this season, Goetsch racked up 516 yards receiving on 38 receptions, averaging 51.6 yards per game; his 5 TDs catches led the schools receiving corps.

Also making the grade this week;

UW-Oshkosh QB Nate Wara (Jr.-Oshkosh/WI) 19-of-29 passing, 300 yards, 5-TDs, in a 35-3 victory over visiting UW-Stout.

Wara passed for 1,838 yards this year (3rd WIAC) with 18-TD completions (2nd), moving into second place on the school's all-time career passing yards list with 5,570 yards.

This season Wara rushed for 605 yards on 140 attempts with 3 TDs, a 4.3 yard per carry average, fifth in the WIAC.

UW-Platteville QB John Kelly (Jr.-Chicago/IL) 23-of-31, 289 yards, 4-TDs in a 51-7 romp over UW-SP.

UW-Eau Claire student / athlete offensive lineman Abe Ward (Sr.-Faribault, Minn.) has been selected to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-District Six first team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Ward, 6'-4, 278lbs, played in 23 games in his college career, starting 12, aiding the Blugolds offensive line as they paced the WIAC in passing yards this season (2,481). Ward, a kinesiology major, has an impressive 3.76 GPA.

The Warhawks clinched their 7th consecutive WIAC Championship two weeks ago and won 17-3 against UW-La Crosse at Perkins Stadium on Saturday (11/12), stretching their NCAA-leading (all divisions) win streak to 40 games.

The 'Hawks receive an automatic bid to the tournament and next defend their back-to-back NCAA D-III National Championships in the first-round of the playoffs held on Saturday, November 19, 2011., locations and times TBD.
