Today in sports history: 5/7/1917 - Boston Red Sox defeat Washington Senators 1-0; Red Sox pitcher Babe Ruth (1895-1948) vs Senators pitcher Walter 'Big Train' Johnson (1887-1946). Johnson tossed 110 shutouts in his career (1907-27) winning 417 games, one of 5 players  (the Immortals) selected to the 1st Baseball Hall of Fame (1936).
NBA - Milwaukee Bucks looking for a new head coach  - with interim coach Joe Prunty in the running.

In other local sports news: Billy Noss (1939-2018) -  Special Olympian, honorary EC Police officer, volunteer and longtime fixture at many Eau Claire sporting events passed away. Billy always had a smile for everyone - whether chasing foul balls or directing traffic - and will be missed. He was 78 years old.  A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, May 17th at 10:00am at Carson Park.. All are welcome to attend.

Today in sports history - 5/9/1961 - Baltimore Oriole Jim Gentile (Born 1934-present) hits two grand slams (nine RBI) versus Minnesota Twins. Gentile, a 6X All-Star and member of the Baltimore Orioles Hall of Fame, recorded 179 HR and 549 RBI in his MLB career (1957-66).

WIAC softball - Regionals -Whitewater, WI - rescheduled (5/12)
Trine Thunder (37-10) (2) vs. Coe College Kohawks (26-12) (12) - 12:00pm:
Team notes: Thunder enjoyed 19-game win streak to start the season. Kohawks at-large invitee.
Benedictine Eagles (30-13) (5) vs. UW-Whitewater Warhawks (6)  (25-11-1) - 2:30pm: rescheduled for Saturday (5/12).

UW-Oshkosh Titans (25-14) (3) @ St Thomas Tommies (36-6) (7)  - 11:00am:
Titans defeated Central (IA) 5-2 on Thursday (5/10). Central wins 2-0 over Titans in elimination round on Friday. Congratulations to UW-Oshkosh team and Head Coach Scott Beyer for another fantastic softball season! Much future success to 4 departing Seniors!
